With a combination of wind gusts to 40 mph and relative humidity values as low as 25 percent, there is an Elevated Fire Weather Risk today. Recent rains will help limit the threat, but with the strength of the winds, any fires could quickly get out of control.

At 8:58am Linton Twp Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Pimento Circle for a gas leak. Engine 10 responded and was presented with a large tree on a LP tank. We established a safe area until Ferrell Gas arrived and removed the tree and tank. Ferrell took the tank to a remote location on the property and burned off the propane.

All the fire departments in the county need help. We’ve heard all the excuses. I can’t commit to (fill in the blank), I’m not always available, I’m too young/old, I don’t know anything about it. They are just excuses. We are all volunteers. We can when we can and we can’t when we can’t.

This is an incredible job you get paid for in ways that aren’t money. If you’ve ever thought about it, contact the VFD in your area. The hardest part, is walking through that station door the first time.

We all live in the communities we serve. How can you make a difference?

Every fire department across the country needs help. You will play an important role in the fire service.

Praireton Fire is holding a Fire Academy from 05/07/2023 - 08/13/2023. Class will be on sundays in person and Thursdays virtual. Skills will be done on Tuesday evenings Upon successful completion, students will receive Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Firefighter 1, and Firefighter 2.
