Sometimes you get a reminder of exactly why we do what we do. โค๏ธ

This year, the Pilot Mountain Civic Club, along with First United Methodist Church, had the privilege of helping provide new back-to-school shoes for students at Westfield Elementary School. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

After the shoes were given out, School Counselor Madison Robinette shared some of the reactions she heard:

โ€œThese are the best shoes Iโ€™ve ever had.โ€
โ€œI love them!โ€
โ€œI canโ€™t believe you got me these nice of shoes.โ€

She even said there were actual screams of excitement when the boxes were opened. ๐Ÿฅนโค๏ธ

Those words got us right in the heart.

A new pair of shoes may seem like a simple thing, but to a child, it can mean so much more; confidence, excitement, and walking into a new school year knowing that their community cares about them.

A very special thank you to Madison Robinette for thinking of the Pilot Mountain Civic Club and inviting us to be part of such a wonderful and meaningful give-back opportunity. We are so grateful you gave us the chance to help make a difference for these sweet kids.

This is why what we do matters. โค๏ธ

The 2nd Annual Better Together Back-to-School Bash was an incredible success, and we could not close out this yearโ€™s event without recognizing the amazing sponsors who helped make it possible.

Because of their generosity, more than 450 students were served this year! Thatโ€™s more than 450 young people who were able to receive school supplies and head into a new school year knowing their community is behind them.

A huge part of what makes the Better Together Back-to-School Bash so special is seeing the incredible men and women who serve and protect our community come together for our kids.

Whether your department joined us on-site, sent personnel, brought vehicles and equipment for our students to see, or generously loaned equipment to help another department participate, you played an important role in making this yearโ€™s event such a success.

For our children, getting to see these vehicles up close, explore the equipment, and interact with the first responders who serve their communities is about so much more than having something exciting to see. Itโ€™s an opportunity to build trust, familiarity, and positive relationships with the people they may one day depend on during an emergency.

And we are incredibly grateful that you chose to spend your time with us.

Thank you for answering the call every dayโ€”and for answering our call when we asked you to be part of this event. Your willingness to work together is another perfect example of why we call this Better Together. ๐Ÿ’™

When we say Better Together, this is exactly what we mean. Itโ€™s local businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals choosing to invest in the children of our community, not because they have to, but because they care.

450+ students walked through our event this year, and your generosity was part of every single backpack and every school supply that went home with them.

As we share this update from our Rescue Squad, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to Chief Childers and every member of his incredible crew at Pilot Mountain Rescue and EMS!

While so many of us were safely at home last night, they were out in the middle of the storm, answering calls, navigating flooded roads, checking on families, and responding wherever they were needed. Their commitment doesnโ€™t stop at the Pilot community; time and time again, they step up to serve neighboring communities throughout our county whenever the call comes.

To Chief Childers and every firefighter, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, law enforcement officer, road crew, utility worker, and volunteer who gave their time and energy to keep others safe, THANK YOU. Your dedication, courage, and selfless service never go unnoticed, even if we donโ€™t say it often enough.

As our community begins to recover, letโ€™s remember to check on one another, including the people who spent the night taking care of everyone else. A simple โ€œthank youโ€ can mean more than you know. If you see a first responder this week, take a moment to let them know how much theyโ€™re appreciated.

Please continue checking on your neighbors, family, and friends, and if you know of someone in need, donโ€™t hesitate to reach out. Together, weโ€™ll get through this, just as our community always does. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿ’™ Pilot Community Check-In ๐Ÿ’™

Our hearts are with everyone affected by last nightโ€™s devastating storms. We know many families across Pilot and the surrounding communities are dealing with flooding, damage, and the overwhelming task of picking up the pieces today.

We have already reached out to our local emergency departments to let them know weโ€™re available to assist in any way we can. While our home is Pilot, our hearts extend across the entire county. If thereโ€™s a need anywhere in the county, weโ€™re ready to help however weโ€™re able.

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, or if you know of a family that could use extra hands, supplies, meals, or other support, please send us a message. We may not have every answer, but weโ€™ll do everything we can to connect people with the help they need.

We also want to express our deepest gratitude to our firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, dispatchers, road crews, utility workers, and all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly through the night to keep our communities safe. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.
