UPDATE — STONE COMMUNITY

The water has gone down in the Stone community; however, a significant amount of mud and debris has been left on the roadway.

With the possibility of another round of rain moving through our area this evening, please continue to watch for flooded roadways, mud/ debris, and downed trees.

Please use caution when traveling and never attempt to drive through water covering the roadway.

We have received several reports of flooded roadways in the Stone community of Pike County.

We are asking everyone to avoid the area if possible and use extreme caution while traveling.

Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never attempt to drive through water covering the roadway. Even shallow water can be dangerous and may be deeper or moving faster than it appears.

Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel in flooded areas.

Pike County Sheriff’s Office Safety Reminder
The Delayed Acceleration Technique Saves Lives
When the light turns green, don’t punch the gas immediately. Take two extra seconds before accelerating — it’s called Delayed Acceleration, and it’s one of the simplest ways to prevent serious crashes at intersections.
Why it matters
• Many severe collisions happen when another driver runs the red light.
• That two second pause gives you time to scan left and right and make sure the intersection is clear.
• It reduces your chance of being hit by a speeding vehicle entering the intersection illegally.
How to use it
1. Light turns green
2. Count “one one thousand, two one thousand”
3. Check left, check right
4. Accelerate smoothly, when it is safe and legal to do so.
A small delay = a huge safety gain
This technique is especially important in busy areas, school zones, and high speed corridors where red light running is more common.
Your caution keeps you, your family, and our community safe.

Pikeville and the surrounding area are currently under several types of severe weather warnings as storms move through the area.

Our crews are currently spread throughout the city responding to roadway hazards and weather-related incidents. With conditions changing quickly, we ask everyone to please use extra caution when traveling.

Please be mindful of emergency crews working along roadways. Slow down, give crews plenty of room, and never drive around barricades or into areas that may be affected by storm damage.

Most importantly, if you do not need to be out, stay inside and stay safe. Continue monitoring local weather alerts and be prepared to take shelter if conditions worsen.

Many trees down in Coal Run, and power is out throughout the City.

Stop lights on US23 are out so please you caution if you are driving.

We are currently clearing roads and conducting a damage assessment.

Barring unforeseen issues, power should be restored within next 30 min.
