So unfortunate.

So unfortunate.

We were literally underwater. Now the river has receded, but the devastation remains.

For over 20 years, The Haw River Canoe & Kayak Co. (HRCK) has introduced thousands to the beauty of the river and surrounding wilderness. Whether you’ve taken a guided trip, rented a kayak, sent your kids to summer camp, or just waved to the paddlers from the bridge — you’ve felt the magic that Joe Jacob, Jacob Matheny, Ben Clarke, and the entire HRCK team bring to the river.

We’ve already received so much incredible support from our friends, family members, neighbors, and even strangers who volunteered to help clear out the building, clean off all the mud, and salvage what might be saved. We’re so touched by all the helping hands that saved us in our hour of need, but now we’ve made it about as far as muscle and sweat alone can take us. We need to replace what we’ve lost and get back on our feet, and we’re going to need your help.

We've opened a GoFundMe campaign at gofundme.com/Help-Save-HRCK. Please consider donating. Any amount — big or small — makes a real difference. And if you can’t give financially, sharing this link is another powerful way to help. Let’s rally together to save a piece of what makes this community so special.

We'll only get through this together.

Hey guys, the meet up group, Cape fear Kayakers is having a trip on Saturday. I thought I would post it if anyone was interested. If your not a member its free to join if you want to go. I hope to see you on the water, Walt

Paddle coastal river to ocean inlet. Approximate 10 miles round-trip. Start in Sneads Ferry, head east ~ 4-5 miles down the New River on the out-going tide to North Topsail B*h. Explore barrier islands, marshes & pelican rookeries, have lunch on the beach, then catch the incoming tide back upriver to Sneads Ferry. Refreshments at Green Turtle or other waterfront cafe afterwards optional.
Not for novices due to possible strong river & tidal currents, potential for high coastal wind. Must have minimum 12 ft kayak, preferably with sealed bulkhead or added flotation or a solid sit on top is ok. No rec boats. PFD & whistle mandatory; spare paddle, safety gear recommended. Bring lunch & plenty of water, sunscreen, bug spray, hat & appropriate non-cotton attire. Change of clothes in dry bag also necessary in the event of capsize as the water temp is still low-mid 60's.
Safety first = more fun for all!
As with all of our events, we are not guides and we are not instructors. We are a group of outdoors enthusiasts out for a good time. We help each other and we learn from each other. By participating in any of our events you assume all risks and responsibilities for your personal health and safety and for your equipment. It is important for everyone that each participant be prepared for the trip. Please use your discretion and best judgment when joining a trip. SYOTW!
