Another great Tuesday in the books! 🎶

We warmed up the way we love best — dancing first, then settling into some beautiful chord progressions that reminded us why we do this. There's something about that moment when the harmony locks in that never gets old.

We've been adding rainsticks and shakers to our arrangement of Africa, and let's just say the percussion section is a work in progress — but a fun one! Layering in instruments takes more coordination than you'd expect, and it slowed our tempo down a bit, but we're getting there.

Our rehearsal took a wonderful detour when we worked on our Armed Forces Medley and one of our Navy veterans shared some real military cadences with us — including one that had the whole room laughing. It was one of those special moments that only happens when you've got the right people in the room.

We closed out with Moondance, our newest song, sung in a push-out quartet — a great way to really hear the blend and keep each other accountable. It's coming along beautifully!

Competition weekend, captured! 📸✨ Back in April, we took the stage for regional competition, and these photos capture all the best moments from our performance — the harmonies, the energy, the pure joy of singing together in front of a crowd. Isn't it fun looking back on it all?!

Competition is always about so much more than the performance itself. It's the friendships, the shared nerves turned to smiles, and the pride of showing up for each other. We're so grateful to every member who poured their heart into this season.

A little behind-the-scenes from rehearsal this week! 🎥 We started with Joyce's paper plate dance warm-up (isn't it fun?!), moved into some vocal production coaching to sharpen our sound, and got to welcome Winona back as our guest for the evening!

We also broke out the rainsticks for "Africa" — including that final "flip" for the big rain effect at the end. We're... still working on our timing. 😅 Practice makes perfect (eventually)!

Last night, the baritones officially took over rehearsal — with 4 voices in the section (including a returning guest!), our baris outnumbered every other part in the room. 🎶

We kicked things off with Joyce's paper plate dance warm-up, dug into some vocal skills work, and then spent time polishing "Africa" and diving into our newest addition, "Moondance." Lots of laughs, lots of learning — even if one bari will insist she's much too "serious" a person for all this fun. 😉

What a Tuesday! 🌺

We kicked off rehearsal with a little surprise from our director — leis for everyone — before moving through four dance styles: box step, cha-cha, grapevine, and freeform. A great way to get everyone moving and smiling before we even sang a note.

We were so happy to welcome two guests this week! Winona joined us for the first time — she's new to Sweet Adelines, but barbershop runs in her family (her dad has been singing it his whole life!). We also had Marcie visiting from Cape Shore Chorus as part of the Region 19 Harmony Passport initiative — always a joy to share our rehearsal space with a fellow Sweet Adeline.

We kept the song list accessible so our guests could jump right in: "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window," "How We Sang Today," and a few other favorites that never get old. Next week we return to learning Moondance and revisiting some of our repertoire pieces — but nights like this are a good reminder of why we all showed up in the first place.

Last week we surprised our girl Meera with a Texas-sized send-off! 🤠🌵 She may be heading to the Lone Star State, but she'll always have a place on our risers in our hearts. We'll miss your beautiful lead voice so much, and we can't wait to hear about whichever lucky Texas chorus scoops you up! 🌟

In loving memory of Marilyn 💛 (1929–2026)

It is with heavy hearts that Diamond State Chorus shares the passing of our beloved Marilyn, just weeks after she celebrated her 97th birthday — a milestone we marked by calling her up and singing to her over the phone, since she could no longer join us in person.

Marilyn was a fixture of DSC for decades, serving for years as Secretary of the Board. Her newsletters were known for their fun, breezy style and always closed with a little "word of wisdom". One in particular captured how she lived: 'Getting Older is Inevitable; Aging is Optional.'

In the days since we learned of her passing, our members have been sharing memories of Marilyn with each other:
🍪 "Marilyn made the best cookies — she would cut them into whatever shape matched the occasion, and every Christmas she'd give us all a bag of her delicious treats."
✉️ "When I first joined DSC, Marilyn emailed me two or three times a week to make sure I knew what was going on and felt welcome — and she was still doing this at 94 years old!"
🎵 "A strong, vibrant, intelligent singer devoted to DSC, and a kind, caring friend — Marilyn was a role model to all of us."

Marilyn, you are in our hearts always. Rest in peace, sweet friend. 🎶

Meet the new board, same as the old board 😁 Our board was sworn in for another year, with Shannon Hevener remaining as president, Juli LaBadia vice president, Lisa Blozis treasurer, Cathy Brock secretary, (there in spirit if not in person!) and Laurie Nadel Baker and Diane Scott as members as large.

Another competition weekend in the books. 📸✨

From the breakfast celebrations to the stage, it was a weekend full of music, memories, and moments we'll carry with us for a long time. These women show up — every single time — and we couldn't be prouder to call this our chorus. 🎶💛
