Everyone is invited to stop by the Expo Building at the South Dakota State Fair to visit the VFW booth! Many members of Pierre's VFW Post 2038 represented veterans today at the Fair in Huron. Among the many visitors was South Dakota's Governor, Larry Rhoden. Here is VFW Post 2038's Commander, Craig Miles with Governor Rhoden taking a break for today's late summer heat!

VFW Post 2038 had the distinct honor of hosting a dinner for the visiting VFW Auxiliary National President, Donna Mills on August 21. Ms. Mills made South Dakota a top priority on her itinerary to visit veteran’s organizations across the nation.

The dinner was held at the American Legion cabin by the Missouri River in Pierre, SD as the local VFW Auxiliary hosted Ms. Mills’ visit. Among other honorable attendees were South Dakota Department President, Karen Sharp and State Auxiliary Commander, Rick Vanden Hoek who travelled from Brandon, SD for the event.

As the Commander of VFW Post 2038, it my honor to thank all of the members of POST 2038 along with VFW Auxiliary Post 2038 for everything we have accomplished. Thank you all.

The Pierre Post 8 baseball team has given VFW post 2038 a couple of baseball hats to say thank you for the donation from our chili feed fundraiser. Thank you Mike Mullen and Travis Vallery for getting it accomplished.

Congratulations to Post 2038 member Richard "Butch" Jacobsen on receiving a Quilt of Valor. Butch, along with 11 other local veterans, received their quilts at a ceremony June 28, 2026 at the United Methodist Church in Pierre, South Dakota.
