🔥💧 WELCOME HOME | FIRE & WATER MINISTRIES

There are seasons when God calls you to go. There are seasons when He calls you to wait. And then there are moments when He makes it very clear, “This is where I want you to put down roots.” For Fire & Water Ministries, we believe that place is right here in Western North Carolina.

When Fire & Water Ministries began in 2021, we had no idea everywhere the Lord would take us or everything He would ask of us along the way. There have been different places, different assignments, different people, and plenty of unexpected turns, but through every season, the heart of this ministry has remained the same.

Years ago, God gave me three simple words for Fire & Water Ministries, “Train. Empower. Release”. Those words have never left me, and as we step into this new season, I believe they are more important than ever.

We want to train people, but not so they become dependent on a ministry, a leader, or a weekly meeting. We want to train people to know Jesus, know His Word, understand who they are in Christ, recognize His voice, and actually walk in obedience to Him. We want to empower sons and daughters to become everything God created them to be, walking in freedom, wholeness, humility, authority, and the power of the Holy Spirit, and then we want to release them. Release them into their families, their communities, into the marketplace, into ministry… Release them wherever God has called them to go.

Because the goal has never been to build something around us. The goal is, HIS Kingdom come, HIS Will be done.

After several years of journeying with the Lord, our family has officially put down roots in Maggie Valley, in the heart of Western North Carolina, and Fire & Water Ministries is putting down roots here with us. We don’t know exactly what everything ahead is going to look like, and I’m completely okay with that. We didn’t come to these mountains with some big blueprint that we are determined to force into existence. We came here to pray. We came here to listen. We came here to serve. We came here to build relationships, disciple people, gather when God says gather, and above everything else, obey.

We believe deeply in the presence of God. We believe in strong marriages and healthy families. We believe in healing and restoration. We believe the Church is supposed to make disciples who go on to make disciples. We believe sons and daughters, filled with the Holy Spirit, can carry the Kingdom of God into their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, churches, and communities, and we believe something I have said over and over again, many times… obedience requires movement.

For our family, obedience required movement ALL the way to these mountains.

So this isn’t simply a change of address for Fire & Water Ministries. This is a new chapter. We aren’t interested in striving to make something happen just so we can say we are doing something. We aren’t interested in building for the sake of building. We want what God wants, how He wants it, and when He wants it. If that means moving quickly, we’ll move quickly. If that means sitting still and praying, we’ll sit still and pray. Our responsibility is simply to keep saying yes.

To everyone who has prayed for us, supported Fire & Water Ministries, attended a gathering, served alongside us, encouraged us, sowed into this ministry, or simply believed in what God was doing through us over these past five years, thank you. You are part of this story, and we don’t take that lightly…

And to Maggie Valley, Haywood County, and all of Western North Carolina: HELLO!👋 We are Joshua and Brandy Hommes, and our family is honored to call these mountains home. We are here to love people, serve this region, and follow Jesus wherever He leads us.

No striving. No building something just to have our name attached to it. Just a simple YES to Jesus and a willingness to obey whatever comes next.

It’s been a little while since we’ve posted here, and with several new faces joining our page recently, I wanted to take a moment to say welcome! 👋

We’re so glad you’re here.

Over the next several weeks and months, you’ll begin seeing more activity on this page as we share what the Lord is doing through Fire & Water Ministries, along with updates on the exciting season we’re stepping into.

As many of you know, God has been leading our family toward Western North Carolina, where we’re preparing to plant roots and continue building the vision He placed in our hearts years ago. We believe this next chapter is about more than a move. It’s about creating a place where people can encounter Jesus, find healing, grow in discipleship, and be equipped to impact their communities.

We’ll be sharing ministry updates, encouragement from God’s Word, testimonies, behind-the-scenes moments, upcoming gatherings, and ways you can pray as we follow His leading one step at a time.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We truly believe the best is still ahead, and we’re excited to see what God has in store.

I believe we are entering a season where God is making it clear

You are not called to everybody…
and everybody is not called to you.

Real maturity is understanding your assignment and staying in your lane.

When you try to reach everyone, you dilute what God specifically entrusted to you.

Not every voice is meant to speak into your life we need to stop given everyone that access.

“And since you are within our assigned limits, we didn’t overstep our boundaries of authority by being the first to announce to you the wonderful news of the Anointed One.”

We are called to disciple people, not coddle them. If someone constantly has to hold your hand to make sure you don’t fall into sin, that may be a sign that you’re not applying what is being offered to you.

Hebrews 5:12–14“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food… But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

Discipleship should lead to maturity, not dependency.

James 1:22“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

People must apply what they are taught.

Galatians 6:5“For each one shall bear his own load.”

Leaders can guide, but each person must walk out their own obedience.

2 Timothy 2:2“And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

Discipleship is about training people to stand and teach others, not creating dependency.

1 Corinthians 3:1–2“I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able.”

Spiritual leaders help people grow, but people must also choose maturity.

Discipleship is meant to produce maturity. Leaders are called to teach, guide, and correct but every believer must apply what they are taught and walk it out. The goal is not dependency, but growth.

When God brings someone into your life to disciple you, it becomes your responsibility to apply what you are being taught and move forward in obedience so that one day you can go forth and disciple someone else.
