We’ve declared a First Alert Weather Day tomorrow for a risk of more organized storms crossing the area with the possibility of damaging wind gusts, hail, and intense lightning. Main impact timing will be afternoon and storms will be moving south.

May 24 update: While rain is occurring in other areas, we're most focused on the northeast portion of central Alabama for a concentration of heavy rainfall overlapping with urban and terrain areas. Isolated flash flooding could occur in these areas.

Additional showers and thunderstorms are forecast each day this week. We'll assess whether additional Flood Watches are needed after today.

⚠️UPDATED Severe Weather Forecast Update for Wednesday Night through Early Thursday Morning as of 1:55pm Tuesday:

🚨Level 3 of 5 Risk is now in the forecast for locations roughly along the I-20/59 corridor. The Enhanced Risk was included for an increased chance for tornadoes, along with large hail and damaging winds. A level 1 to 2 out of 5 risk remains elsewhere across Central Alabama.

OVERNIGHT EVENT: We're expecting the chance for severe storms to begin as early as 6pm, with multiple rounds of storms moving from west to east through the overnight hours as a cold front slowly moves south across the area. Have your severe weather plan ready, and have multiple ways to recieve warnings - most importantly have something that can wake you up such as a NOAA Weather Radio, smartphone app, and make sure Wireless Emergency Alerts are ON. We'll keep you updated with the latest!
