(10/08/26 10:47 am) A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for areas generally along and south of Interstate 20 from Friday Night into Saturday. The areas under the watch have a medium chance of experiencing Tropical Storm Force Winds (39-73 mph) within the watch period.

When you look at your weather app or watch a broadcast, you see a single number—like 100°. But behind that single digit is a whole spectrum of possibilities, with that number just being the most likely outcome.

Here’s a good example of how we look at the numbers behind the scenes:

On any typical mid-August day in Birmingham, the actual probability of hitting 100° is only about 5%. It’s pretty rare!

We’ve got a shot at touching 100° this Saturday, but by Monday? That probability explodes to nearly 70%.

At that point, arguing whether it’s going to be 99°, 100°, or 101° is splitting hairs—there’s virtually no difference in how it feels on your body. The big takeaway isn't the exact digit; it's that excessive, multi-day heat is settling in through next week and likely beyond.

Plan ahead now: limit afternoon outdoor work, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors.
