Piedmont Council's High Adventure Crew 88 tackled the Ohlone Wilderness Trail for the first time over the long Veteran's Day weekend (Nov 11-13, 2016).
Starting in Sunol in the early afternoon of Friday, 6 gals and 1 guy from the crew climbed to their first campsite, Eagle's Erie, to discover that it offered a gorgeous sunset view overlooking the Fremont hills.
Day 2 was another relatively short day but with a killer climb to Rose Peak (at 3817' elevation, this is the highest point in Alameda County), where they rested to enjoy the view and the late afternoon sun with songs accompanied by a ukelele.
This trail is a hidden gem of the Bay Area: an expansive area of wilderness trails through rolling hills from which you get beautiful views of distant landmarks, all within an hour's drive from home.
Sunday was a 10 mile long haul with more climbs, but over 3000' of descent to the trail's end at Del Valle Park, in Livermore. For many of the crew members, this was their first backpacking trip, but they are looking forward to planning more adventures with the crew.
