Augusta Road Ruritan Club and south Greenville community friends gathered recently to unveil a Historical Marker celebrating the Club’s preservation of the former Pepper School building, and it’s imp

ortant role in Southern Greenville County history. The old Pepper School building is located at 7788 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC (about 1 mile south of I-185 on Hwy 25 below the Memorial Gardens in the Community of Moonville) and is now nearly 100 years old. The facility was once the educational center of the area and a location that provided generations of Greenville County residents a great place to learn both academics and practical skills like canning vegetables. After the school was closed, the facility was purchased in 1956 by the Augusta Road Ruritan Club for $6,200. Ruritan Club president, Dr. Gene Cornett, thanked the group for attending. He noted that Rick Owens, Chairman, Greenville County Historical Commission, coordinated the marker development and installation through the State process. Terry Creamer, Ruritan member and Fire Commissioner, provided the materials and labor to install the marker and build an attractive rock base. In addition to the Augusta Road Ruritan Club members, many community groups were represented, including Chief Ken Taylor, South Greenville Fire Department; Greenville County Councilor Fred Payne, and representatives from the Greenville County School District, Greenville Technical College, and Greenville Senior Action.

The 2026 Augusta Road Ruritan Club Scholarship window is open. Our scholarships are available to students in the Woodmont area of the Greenville County School District of SC. Please email us for an application! All applications must be submitted via email in a pdf format. Application deadline is 5.15.2026. [email protected]

A couple of notes to put on your calendar...

Easter Sunrise Service- Sunday, April 5, 2026- we need folks there at 6:30 to set up for the 7 am start time.

April 20, 2026- Board meeting- we will meet, weather permitting at our picnic shelter; if the weather is bad, we will move the meeting to 3 Friends Bar & Grill

April 27- Club Meeting at 7 pm. If the club floors are not ready, we will meet either at the picnic shelter OR an alternate location.

2026 dues are now being accepted. Thanks to those who have already taken care of this!! For those who need to pay, here are the dues options:

ASSOCIATE MEMBER (BUSINESS OR INDIVIDUAL) $55
YOUTH/ STUDENT MEMBER $15
FULL ADULT- $80
FULL COUPLE- $130
FULL ADULT-RURITAN FOREVER- $27
FULL COUPLE- RURITAN FOREVER- $ 24

2026 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION will be "live" as of April 1, 2026. We will accept email submissions through midnight on May 15, 2026. The scholarships will be awarded to students in the WOODMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT area at our July meeting.

The Quilts of Valor presentation will take place on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 6:30 pm.
