Dear Piedmont Families:
We know we’re all doing what we can to help with GoFundMe requests for victims of the terrible L.A. wildfires, so this is an especially hard time to bring up another request.
However, we have an urgent need more locally as well, with two PUSD teachers currently on medical leave, one for a difficult long-term medical issue, the other after being injured in a very serious head-on collision over Winter Break.
The Association of Piedmont Teachers has a Sick Leave Bank to which teachers donate sick days to help their colleagues facing medical crises like these. Unfortunately, for the first time in our district’s history, due to an unprecedented string of illnesses and injuries this fall, the maximum number of days our contract allows the Bank to distribute has been reached for the current school year. California teachers are not eligible for the State Disability Insurance program. This means that the two educators currently facing medical crises are being forced to go on Differential Pay, which is roughly half their normal income.
Given this very unusual circumstance, APT is taking the unusual step of starting a GoFundMe to help bridge the financial gap for these teachers until they are able to return full-time to their classrooms, where they very much want to be.
We anticipate the financial need to be about $15,000 total, a sum our small group of teachers will struggle to raise without outside support. So we’re reaching out to the larger Piedmont Community to help.
Please consider donating if you can. Any amount would be greatly appreciated:
