On Tuesday, hundreds of UAW members from every LA local came together for a forum with leading mayoral candidates.

Over two-thirds voted to recommend that our union endorse Nithya Raman for mayor of Los Angeles, which was officially enshrined by our union’s political action committee today.

Nithya will be a powerful advocate on vital issues like affordable housing, immigrants’ rights, expanding transit and more—now it’s time to get out the vote.

UAW Local 2162 Chairperson Carina Rosales spoke at a press conference today with the Nevada State Democratic Party calling out Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo for letting Elon Musk’s Boring Company off the hook for committing egregious safety violations that included chemical burns, a worker’s pelvis getting crushed, and another worker getting shocked by an electrical panel.

"Climate change is a huge crisis, and one that we need to address quickly. We think that one of the best ways to have the collective political will to make that happen is to have a strategic industrial policy that creates good middle class manufacturing jobs in the sectors of the economy that need to decarbonize, like batteries, building decarbonization, heat pumps, offshore wind." -Region 6 Director Mike Miller

Great article on our recent report: Organize, Industrialize, Decarbonize!

“The report presents a vision for how the state can deploy a range of industrial policy tools to expand clean energy industries like offshore wind, electric vehicle batteries, and heat pumps. The same strategies would ensure that jobs created in this build-out become high-quality union careers. It’s precisely the kind of forward-thinking approach labor needs to take on industrial policy.”

A recent report from UAW Region 6 outlines a bold vision for how to expand clean energy industries in California using union labor. It’s an example of how unions can get serious about industrial policy and assert themselves in the “abundance” debate.
