Need a way to burn off some of that canine energy? Animal Health Clinic offers Doggy Daycare for just $10 a day!

Remember Ollie and Alastor? These adopted boys are still hanging out in foster, and when their foster had to be away all day Friday, they spent the day at Doggy Daycare. Judging by those happy faces and how fast they were asleep that night, we’d say it was a success! 💤

Playtime, socialization, exercise, and a whole lot of fun—all for less than the cost of lunch.

📍 500 Telly Rd, Picayune, MS

Give Animal Health Clinic a call and let them do the entertaining while you enjoy a tired, happy pup at the end of the day! 🐾❤️

🎉 Introducing Our New Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program! 🎉

One very special dog helped inspire this new program, and his name is Charlie.

Charlie is an 11-year-old German Shepherd who reminds us every day that senior pets still have so much life to live and love to give. Watching him enjoy every moment inspired us to create a program to help more senior pets find loving homes.

🐾 Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program 🐾

If you’re 65 or older, you can adopt any pet 7 years or older for just $25.

Even better, we’ll continue to provide:
✔️ Heartworm prevention
✔️ Yearly vaccinations
✔️ End-of-life services when the time comes

All at no cost to the adopter for the life of the pet.

Why are senior pets such great companions for seniors?

❤️ They are often calmer and already know the ropes.
❤️ They provide companionship and help reduce loneliness.
❤️ They help keep you active and engaged.
❤️ They offer unconditional love every single day.

And Charlie is a perfect example.

🐶 11 years old
🎾 Loves playing ball
💦 Loves the water
👧 Great with kids
🐕 Good with other dogs
🦮 Walks beautifully on a leash
🎓 Knows sit, fetch, and drop

Charlie may be a senior, but nobody told him that! He still has plenty of adventures left and is ready to share them with a family of his own.

While Charlie inspired this program and qualifies for Seniors for Seniors adoption, he is also available through our regular adoption. We simply want him to find the perfect home, no matter what that looks like.

Could Charlie be the companion you’ve been looking for?

Come meet this amazing boy and learn more about our new Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program. Because growing older is better when you have a best friend by your side.

⭐️ Pops: Fresh From the Spa and Ready for a Home! ⭐️

Pops recently enjoyed a spa day at Petsense Picayune, where he was treated like the star he truly is. He even came back sporting a few extra embellishments and looking extra handsome! 🤩⭐️

This sweet boy is our second-longest resident, with 211 days and counting in our care. Pops is a 3-year-old, 70-pound Great Pyrenees/Terrier mix who is still waiting.

Why we love Pops:
🐾 Walks nicely on a leash
🐾 Loves people
🐾 Okay with cats
🐾 Gives one of the best submissive grins you’ll ever see
🐾 Enjoys car rides
🐾 Professional cuddler
🐾 House-trained
🐾 Knows “sit” and “paw”

Pops would prefer to be your one-and-only pet, as he isn’t a fan of other dogs. In return, he’ll happily give you all the love and attention you could ask for.

Whether you’re looking to adopt or foster, Pops is ready to pack his bags and head home with you.

Can’t make it to the shelter? Come meet Pops at Petco in Slidell this Saturday from 11 AM–2 PM and see why everyone who meets him falls in love with that goofy grin. ❤️

After 211 days in the shelter, Pops deserves a comfy couch, daily adventures, and a person to call his own. If you can’t adopt, fostering can make a huge difference while he waits for his forever family.

🚨 We are at a breaking point. 🚨

On Wednesday alone, 6 more dogs came into our shelter as strays.

Every day, shelters and rescues are expected to solve a problem we did not create. We are expected to remain “No Kill,” yet irresponsible pet ownership continues unchecked. The math simply does not work.

In May, we took in 222 animals and had 171 outcomes. That is a net increase of 51 animals in a single month.

FIFTY-ONE‼️

We cannot continue adding animals faster than they are leaving.

Our staff is stretched beyond capacity. Dogs are sitting in crates because there is nowhere else to put them. Kennels are overcrowded. Dogs are becoming stressed and getting into fights. Enrichment and one-on-one attention suffer because there are simply not enough hours in the day. Staff burnout and turnover increase as the pressure grows.

We have reduced adoption fees to just $25 for many of our long-term dogs. It isn’t enough.

We desperately need adopters. We desperately need fosters. But the reality is that shelters and rescues cannot adopt or foster their way out of a community-wide problem.

Animal control ordinances must be enforced. Existing fines and laws must have consequences. If current laws are insufficient, they need to be strengthened. Accountability must exist for those who allow animals to roam, fail to spay and neuter, abandon pets, or continue contributing to the cycle.

The burden cannot continue falling solely on shelters, rescues, volunteers, and the small percentage of people who are already doing everything they can.

If you are frustrated by overcrowded shelters, please understand: SO ARE WE.

The solution starts long before an animal arrives at our door.

I challenge every person reading this to visit our website. Go to the menu and click Volunteer. There you will find our Foster application. While you’re there, take a few minutes to look through the animals currently available for adoption. One foster home. One adoption. One share can make more of a difference than you realize.

And if you truly cannot foster or adopt right now, then please share this post. Sharing costs nothing and may put one of our animals in front of the person who can help.

We also want to be transparent: difficult decisions are being made regarding some of our long-term animals and those coming off stray hold simply because we do not have the space to continue absorbing animals at the current rate. No shelter should be forced into making decisions based on a lack of space, yet that is the reality.

In May, 222 animals needed us. We found outcomes for 171. We cannot sustain a net increase of 51 animals every month.

Please foster. Please adopt. Please share. And please demand accountability from those responsible for creating this crisis.

🐾✨ Meet Margie’s Magnificent M Crew! ✨🐾

The adorable M pups are officially ready for adoption!

Their story began when Margie arrived as a stray, carrying a precious surprise. In the safety of the shelter, she gave birth to nine beautiful puppies and has done an amazing job raising them.

These adorable Lab mix puppies are now happy, healthy, and ready to find families of their own!

🐶 Meet the M Crew:
💕 Magnus
💕 Martha
💕 Maizie
💕 Manfred
💕 Murphy
💕 Mabel
💕 Madelyn
💕 Merriman
💕 Muriel

Merriman and Muriel have a special story. At just 6 days old, they went into a loving foster home where they were bottle-raised and showered with attention. These two little sweethearts will be at Petco this Saturday looking for families!

The rest of the crew—Magnus, Martha, Maizie, Manfred, Murphy, Mabel, and Madelyn—are currently at the shelter and will be heading to Petsmart in Slidell on Saturday to meet potential adopters.

And before anyone asks—Mama Margie will be available at a later date! After raising nine puppies, she’s earned a little time to herself. She’s as sweet as a milkshake, full of love, and sure to make someone an amazing companion when her turn comes. 💕

From being born in the shelter to growing into playful, lovable pups, these little Lab mixes have come a long way. Now all they need are forever homes filled with toys, treats, adventures, and lots of love.

🏡 Could one of Margie’s Magnificent M Crew be your new best friend?

Come meet them this Saturday and let an M pup steal your heart! ❤️🐾

🐾 Meet Ro! 🐾

Ro is a handsome 55-pound Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler mix who was found as a stray and is estimated to be around 2 years old. Now he’s searching for the forever family he deserves!

This sweet boy walks nicely on a leash, knows how to sit, and absolutely loves people—including kids. He enjoys car rides and loads right up without hesitation. One of his favorite activities is people-watching; perhaps he’s still hoping to spot the family he once knew.

Ro has plenty of great qualities:
🐶 Walks well on a leash
🐶 Knows “sit”
🐶 Loves people and kids
🐶 Enjoys car rides
🐶 Crate trained
🐶 Possibly house trained (or would be easy to train)

Ro still has a little puppy energy left, but he’s settling into adulthood nicely. At the shelter, he hasn’t shown much interest in making dog friends and would likely prefer to be your main companion. He’s also not a fan of being left alone in the yard—if you’re nearby, he’d much rather be with you! He will come find you…

Whether he’s hanging out at Crosby Commons In Picayune Ms, waiting patiently for a burger from Betty K's or enjoying a pup cup from Nell's Sweets & Treats, Ro is content to sit by your side and watch the world go by.

If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, road-trip buddy, and best friend, Ro may be the perfect match.

❤️ Come meet this pretty boy and see if he’s the one for your family. Ro is waiting to meet you! ❤️

Thinking about fostering?

Sometimes you succeed in helping a dog find their forever home. Sometimes you "fail"—and it turns out that was exactly how it was meant to be. They were already home! 🥰🏡

That's what happened with Rusty.

Rusty arrived with his siblings as strays in September 2025. When the cold snap hit at the end of January, he went into foster. His foster family kept extending their commitment, and before long, they realized they couldn't imagine life without him. At the end of May, they made it official and adopted him!

We couldn't be happier for Rusty and his family.

Interested in fostering? Keep in mind that all foster dogs remain available for adoption and are listed on our website while in foster. Your home could be the stepping stone to their forever family—or you may discover they were already home all along.
