Venture Crew 5 had a great time volunteering at the SPCA Shot Clinic this Saturday. It’s always fun seeing all the different fur babies while we help keep Picayune’s pets healthy!

It’s no joke that Crew 5 loves outdoor adventures and community service, but we also love some fooling around and just having fun, too. Tonight (Monday, 4/1) we are dressing in our wacky finest and meeting at Nell’s Sweets and Treats at 6:30pm. If your youth ages 14-20 would like to come check us out, this would be a great opportunity…. seriously!

We had a great time horsin’ around at Worthy Stables Inclusive Rodeo this afternoon. Couldn’t have asked for a prettier day, and much fun was had by volunteer and participant alike!

Venture Crew 5 ran the Cowboy Obstacle challenge at Worthy Stables’ first annual inclusive rodeo! We aren’t sure whether the youth volunteers or the riders had more fun! Of course member horses Captain and Star, who also work at Camp Tiak in the summer, took excellent care of their riders as usual.

Help us spread the word! Rodeo participants who want to compete in the horseback events need to register before March 10. All other events can be registered for up until the day of.

Main Rodeo Events are as follows:

In-Hand Barrel Racing: A timed event, trotting horse around barrels. Horse is on a lead rope so no previous riding experience is required.
Cowboy Obstacles: An obstacle course for participants to ride through. Judged on style and number of obstacles completed.
Mounted Shooting: Riders shoot old West-style foam dart guns at targets from on a horse.
Calf Roping: Riders "rope" calf and steer dummies with hula hoops while riding horses.
Goat Tying: Another timed event. Participants ride our artificial horse, hop off, and tie a goat dummy.
Mechanical Bull Riding: Participants try to ride the mechanical bull for 8 seconds with as much flare and style as possible.

Venture Crew 5 was well represented at the Friends of Scouting fundraising event this evening. Liz did the invocation for the event and Ben was the scout guest speaker. Good job, guys!
