Program this week was bittersweet, as it was our very last week of Creative Summer! You know what they say- time flies when you're having fun! Well, when you're not only having fun but also creating art, making new friends, learning new things, and discovering your own special talents and strengths- You might feel time fly by so fast, it seems like it was magic 😉
This week, we each decorated a traveler's mantle- a small square of fabric meant to be worn on a journey. Using foam stamps and ink, we created our own unique designs on the fabric- We even made our own stamps, by cutting foam shapes and gluing them to a cardboard backing! When we put our traveler's mantle on, we are reminded of a simple truth: The magic was inside us all along- and we can take it with us, wherever we go. Magic is not limited to Creative Summer, or even to Barnstone (though, we do think there is a lot of that here!). Magic lives inside all of our young artists- and in all that they create. We wish all of our artists a wonderful, creative, and magical rest of their summer! 🪄🎨✨❤️😊

"What's your favorite animal?"
Chances are you've probably been asked that question before, and if you love nature as much as we do- then chances are, you definitely have a response!
But, have you ever thought about WHY you feel drawn to a particular kind of animal?
This week, we learned about spirit animals- also known as "familiars" in the magic world, these are animals that we as humans feel a special connection with. Often, these connections serve to teach us lessons, guide us on our path in life, or protect us from harm.
Our artists designed and drew their spirit animals (using charcoal attached to their wands), and then colored them in with liquid watercolor paints. Every painting turned out so unique and beautiful, that we simply had to display the finished work- And we now have all of our spirit animals hanging on a gallery wall. So, if you stop by, turns out you might see some animals in the Barn these days! 😉🐍🐆🐋🐖🐉 🎨

Have you ever felt all torn up inside? Is there someone or something in your life you can turn to in those tough moments, to help put yourself back together?
Today's craft- called hanji paper felting- showed us the magic that is created when torn-up pieces of a special kind of paper are put together to create a collage. Hanji paper felting is a unique process that does not require any scissors or glue- just water, some bubble wrap, and a lot of working with our hands, to get the fibers in the paper to stick together. When it is all dry, the finished product turns into such a beautiful, colorful sight!
May we never forget that we, too, will always have the ability to be put back together and made new- no matter how many times we tear. ❤️🙏🎨💪

We are wrapping up our second week of Creative Summer, and we are so excited to see the progress we've already made on our creative projects!
Check out our "summoning crowns"- These are meant to be worn when we want to summon the energy of one of the elements, such as Earth, Water, Air, or Fire.
So much creativity, so much power, and so much fun! At Barnstone, there must be magic in the air! (Well...and in the other elements, too 😉). ✨🌎🌊🍃🔥
