Meet the Bretts! In 1986, Terry and Pat Brett were hired by the Kimberton Waldorf School to open a small farm store and dairy processing operation in Chester County, Pennsylvania. That small farm store has grown into eight community markets, and our commitment to local food and community remains at the heart of everything we do. Today, we work with more than 200 local farmers, producers, and makers, helping strengthen our regional food system while connecting our communities with fresh, wholesome foods. Through initiatives like Rounding Up at the Register and a focus on products that care for people and the planet, we're proud to support local agriculture, small businesses, and meaningful community organizations.
The farm’s certification as Biodynamic by the Demeter Association naturally shaped the store’s focus on organic and natural foods, at a time when certified organic products were still rare. Initially operated by Pat and Terry, a farm intern, and a handful of volunteers, the store was only the second of its kind in the area. The community embraced it with enthusiasm, laying the foundation for what would become Kimberton Whole Foods.
Today, we are proud to be a multi-generational family-owned company recognized for our enduring commitment to sustainable agriculture, organic integrity, and local food systems.
