For World Mental Health Day, we’re bringing the conversation a little closer to home.
Perinatal mental health IS mental health. From the changes that come with pregnancy to birth, postpartum and adjusting to life as a parent, mental health deserves to be part of the conversation through all of it.
Maternal mental health conditions affect 1 in 5 women, and far too many never receive treatment. Not because support doesn’t exist, but because finding it can sometimes feel like one more thing to figure out when you’re already overwhelmed.
We want to make that part a little easier.
At , we’ve gathered resources for wherever you are in the process, from pregnancy and postpartum planning to online support groups, peer mentors, helplines and more.
Take a look before you need it. Send it to a friend who might. Save it somewhere you can find it again. 🤎

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and for those working in maternal and perinatal health, this is a conversation we need to be having.
Domestic violence is not always visible, and it is not always physical. It can take the form of coercion, isolation, financial control, threats and other patterns of power and control. And the impact rarely stops with one person. It can affect children, families, financial independence, careers and entire communities.
Awareness also means challenging the myths that can make it harder for survivors to be seen, believed and supported.
For birthworkers, providers and anyone supporting families during pregnancy and postpartum, understanding these realities matters. The more informed our community is, the better equipped we are to recognize concerns, respond without judgment and connect people with support.
Awareness matters. Education matters. Support matters. 🤎

Our Executive Board recently gathered for a retreat to connect, reflect and look ahead at the work still to come.
Time together like this gives us space to step outside of the day-to-day and reconnect with why we’re here: supporting mental health through every stage of the perinatal journey; honoring every experience, every outcome, every family.
We’re grateful for the people who continue to bring their time, perspective and heart to this work, and excited for what we’re building together.

We’re kicking off our Board Member Spotlight series with PMHAAZ Vice President Rochelle Trotman-Norman!
Rochelle has spent the past 20 years working in mental and behavioral healthcare and is both a Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Associate Professional Counselor. Her background brings together two things we value deeply at PMHAAZ: thoughtful mental health care and the power of creativity and connection.
When she’s not working, Rochelle’s world includes her 14-year-old daughter, 9-year-old toy poodle, and a whole bunch of houseplants. 🪴 She also loves reading, writing, and pretty much any opportunity to be creative.
And because a board member spotlight needs a good fun fact, Rochelle gave us two: she can touch her tongue to her nose AND she delivered her daughter within four hours. The unexpected connection between the two? Both are courtesy of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), a connective tissue disorder.
