Following the success of the first two Folk Dance Festivals in 1976 and 1978, on February 10, 1979, a small group of dedicated Greek Orthodox Christians became the first signatories to the original Constitution and By-Laws of the Greek Orthodox Folk Dance & Choral Festival (FDF) and its governing body. What follows is the pledge they made on that day:

That the nature of this Annual Event is for the sole and exclusive purpose of bringing our youth (and young adults) together in a spirit of Christian fellowship and love."

Meet Kyriaki Tsigkounis and Nicholas Georgalas, recipients of this year’s FDF Dance Director Scholarship!

The scholarship supports Kyriaki and Nicholas’ participation in the 40th anniversary of Lygkistes, a traditional Greek dance and culture seminar taking place in Florina this August. Led by FDF judge Yannis Konstantinou and his family, the seminar features daily dance workshops, educational excursions, historical presentations, and local cultural experiences designed to deepen participants’ knowledge of traditional Greek dance and culture. Kyriaki and Nicholas will write an article about their experiences for this year’s Oli Mazi Magazine and will host a dance workshop at FDF 2027.

We are thrilled to announce FDF 2027 will take place at the Anaheim Marriott, February 11-14, 2027! 
Building on the record growth of recent years, we have further expanded our hotel footprint to include a large room block at the Hilton Anaheim in addition to the entire hotel at the Anaheim Marriott. Together, there will be nearly 1,500 hotel rooms at our special FDF rates across both hotels, which represents our largest FDF room block to date and positions us to welcome even more participants and families to the festival! Hotel reservations and participant registration details will be shared in late summer 2026.
FDF 2027 marks the 50th anniversary of the Greek Orthodox Folk Dance & Choral Festival (FDF), a milestone reaching five decades of bringing together generations to celebrate our shared heritage and faith. 💕
FDF is elevated by the participants and volunteers who give themselves to this ministry year after year. Dance directors! Are there dances and regions you’d like to learn more about for FDF 2027? Take an opportunity to learn more in Greece by applying for the FDF Dance Director Scholarship (deadline is March 31, 2026). The scholarship provides tuition to attend an educational opportunity in Greece, airfare from the U.S. to Athens, Greece, and flight or grounds transportation to the seminar location for one person.
