As we mourn the profound loss of the Bibas family and Oded Lifsh*tz, who were laid to rest yesterday, our grief deepens with the return of Tsachi Idan, Shlomo Mantzur Itzhak Elgarat n and Ohad Yahalomi, 49, kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and murdered in captivity. Our hearts are with their families. May our collective strength, resilience and love hold them during this agonizing time.

Tsachi, Shlomo, Itzhak and Ohad are the last hostages to be released as part of the first phase of the five-week-old ceasefire. Fifty-nine hostages remain in the terror tunnels of Gaza, less than half of them believed to be alive and suffering unimaginable torment at the hands of Hamas. We will not breathe easily until every one of them is returned home. Bring them all home now.

A computer scientist since 1959, Hadassah National Vice President Liz Alpert’s resume is impressive to say the least, including work at Bell Telephone Laboratories and IBM. Twenty years as a professor in the field followed. Now retired, Hadassah has her time. And heart. “I work hard at it because I believe in it.”

Hadassah is outraged by the depravity and barbarism of Hamas, which continues to inflict grotesque, unimaginable suffering on the hostages and their families and to commit crimes against humanity, for which it must be held accountable.

We are heartbroken that three of the hostages slain in captivity and returned yesterday to Israel in coffins were confirmed to be 83-year-old Oded Lifsh*tz — a lifelong peace activist who transported ill Palestinian children to Israeli hospitals for treatment — and Kfir and Ariel Bibas, young children who were kidnapped with their mother Shiri from their home on October 7. That Hamas claimed it was releasing Shiri and instead returned a body that did not match any of the hostages is unconscionable. Their cruelty knows no bounds.

We share in the deep sorrow of the Bibas and Lifsh*tz families and hold tight to our Jewish family in Israel and in the Diaspora. May Ariel’s, Kfir’s and Oded’s memories forever be a blessing.
