Never did Columbus native Lindsey Peetz think that fostering a dog would eventually lead her to appearing on the Kelly Clarkson Show, but her rescue dog Penny’s story of recovery and resilience is one to be told on a national level.

In 2020, Penny was found abandoned and severely injured after being thrown from a car, but her resilience never wavered. Now a Hero Dog Awards finalist in the Emerging Hero and Shelter Dog category sponsored by Lulu's Fund, Penny has become a beacon of hope. After multiple surgeries, including a leg amputation, she bravely healed and now teaches children empathy while helping dispel stigmas around differently-abled animals. Her journey is a powerful reminder that with love and perseverance, even those who have been broken can heal and thrive.
