Over this past weekend we heard back from Saddle Ranch Chop House in the Westgate Entertainment District. After talking to GM Ken a couple of weeks ago, he passed it by corporate legal counsel in CA, who advised him that the Arizona Liquor & License Control Board suggested that AGPT's "were not a good fit" for Saddle Ranch at this time. Hmmmm. I dunno if the AZLLC is involved or not... it could just be SR lawyer in CA giving us, and KEn, the brush off. Sure, it's controversial, but we'll find a venue soon. No shortage of those. I also placed a public records request with Lee Hill of the AZLLC Board. Lee is the one who told us in 2013 that the Board takes no umbrage in excluded gambling on licensee premises... as well as the AZLLC lead investigator, who did add "that's not to say that gaming won't be investigating". Which is fine. Gaming has investigated Dave & Busters before, and issues a warning that their prizes exceeded the $30 max cap provided by law. No mention from gaming about the lure analysis, btw, which remains a question we have -- prizes cannot be offered as a lure to separate players from their money. Lure implies a profit motive, according to the two case laws I have been able to find. The amusement gambling exclusion was specifically carved out for Dave & Busters, Peter Piper Pizza, and Chuck E. Cheese's, after AZ changed their anti-gambling laws 30-40 years ago. So we will continue to search for a place to conduct AGPTs once we're ready to break out of the home game play testing mode, which hasn't yet started either. Slow going. This is, after all, year 5 of the concept inception. :) But I expect good things in the next 6-12 months. Something's gonna crack. :D
