We were thrilled to have Marcel Van der Watt, PhD, Director of the Research Institute at the National Center on S*xual Exploitation in Washington, D.C., open our national JuST Conference today with a keynote address. In his presentation, titled Eliminating the Demand That Fosters S*x Trafficking, Dr. van der Watt covered a lot of ground. Among the points he made was that AI (artificial intelligence) is being employed in many U.S. states and cities to find and combat the buying of s*x, one of various ways that technology is opening opportunities in the fight against s*x trafficking.

SHARED HOPE INTERNATIONAL BIO – Jo Lembo

Before moving to Mesa, Arizona, Jo was Shared Hope’s top speaker and presenter in the Seattle/Puget Sound area for several years. She was one of the first Ambassadors volunteering in many capacities, and served as the project manager for the Terry’s House project in the Pacific Northwest.

Using her skills as a powerful motivational speaker for activists of all ages, she trains Ambassadors nationwide to share with their audiences the HOPE they can have to make a difference in the world they live in. Making a difference herself personally in the lives of several survivors of prostitution, Jo and her husband co-present to bring prevention education and defend our kids from s*x trafficking. Education is the defense and Jo is committed to reaching as many people as possible with the message of recognizing trafficker’s tactics and teaching audiences how to respond effectively. Nick speaks directly to men, to change the culture, and together they firmly believe that ending demand and bringing awareness will make the world much smaller for those who buy and sell our children in the s*x trade.
