Meet Barbra!
Barbra was one of eleven children born to peasant farmers who could barely afford to feed their family, let alone send every child to school. In her culture, when a family must choose, a son’s education is usually chosen first.
In 2010, when Barbra was six years old and had nearly lost hope, she was sponsored through Hope 4 Kids International.
Here’s how Barbra describes it, in her own words:
“This organization Hope 4 Kids has changed my life a lot because they paid my fees on time and provided scholastic material. I never knew that I could reach this level of education. I am so grateful for what Hope 4 Kids sponsorship has done for me.”
Barbra became one of the best performers in her school. Her teachers were proud of her. Her parents were proud of her. And somewhere along the way, she understood exactly what was at stake.
“In my culture most people do not consider education of a girl child as a useful thing. The moment I came to realize this, I studied so hard to achieve my goals.”
Barbra is 22 now. She’s studying for her bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and looks forward to graduating in 2029, with her sponsor who has walked alongside her for more than seven years!
That’s what it looks like to empower a girl, not just to help her for a season, but to equip her for a lifetime. Barbra isn’t just educated. She’s on her way to becoming a leader in a culture that once told her that wasn’t possible for someone like her.
