Happy Adoption Day, Rosie Kyle… now known as Penny! 🐴❤️

This wonderful mare was only with us for a short time, but sometimes the perfect match is already waiting. We had established the criteria for Penny’s future adopter a couple of months ago, and when this sweet girl arrived, we had a feeling she might be a good fit. Thankfully—it couldn’t have worked out more perfectly!

Penny headed north to Show Low last night and is settling into her new home, where she’s getting acquainted with her new herd mate, a handsome gelding named Copper.

This is the very best part of rescue. Watching a horse who found themselves in a feedlot through no fault of their own get a second chance and begin a new chapter filled with love, care, and a family of their own.

Congratulations Saige and Penny! We can’t wait to watch your journey together. ❤️🐴

It’s been a week…
🚨 Leroy Update 🚨

Our handsome 7-year-old Leroy (Legendary Lore) gave us quite a scare this week.

On Monday morning, he suddenly came up lame in all four feet. With strong digital pulses indicating inflammation, we knew something wasn’t right. The challenge? Leroy has been on stall rest and had no obvious reason for such a sudden onset.

Phoenix Equine came out, drawing blood and beginning treatment immediately. So far, his bloodwork has been normal, including insulin testing. Additional testing for EHV, West Nile Virus, EPM, has been submitted, and we are still awaiting results.

Leroy has received three DMSO IV treatments, is wearing soft ride boots for support, and thankfully his radiographs showed no rotation, which was a huge relief. He is currently being closely monitored while we continue searching for answers.

As many horse owners know, answers don’t come cheap. Leroy’s veterinary invoice has already exceeded $1,900, and this comes on the heels of Tango’s recent veterinary emergency, for which we’ve only raised $70 of his $600 bill so far.

To make matters slightly more challenging, this all happened during the first week of Arizona summer heat, with temperatures reaching 107 degrees. 🥵

We never hesitate to provide our horses with the care they need, but unexpected veterinary expenses add up quickly. If you’d like to help support Leroy’s diagnostics and treatment, any contribution—no matter the size—is deeply appreciated.

🐎Adoption update - Sheba’s Spirit

From 63 starts across North America to her forever home filled with love.

Sheba is granddaughter to Secretariat and was ATHA’s 100th intake. She was adopted in 2022 and living her best life with her boyfriend, Gallo, and two minis she confidently keeps in line.

From racetrack miles to pasture smiles, she is truly a success story.
