Arizona is starting to heat up! 🥵

Living in hot climates like Arizona can bring unique mental health challenges. While many people are familiar with winter seasonal depression, extreme summer heat can also impact mood, sleep, activity levels, and social connection.

If you take behavioral health medications, warmer temperatures may increase your risk of:
✅ Sun sensitivity and sunburn
✅ Dehydration
✅ Difficulty regulating body temperature

Stay safe this summer by:
💧 Drinking plenty of water
🌞 Limiting prolonged sun exposure
🧢 Wearing protective clothing and sunscreen
❄️ Taking breaks in cool environments
👩‍⚕️ Talking with your healthcare provider about how heat may affect your medications

Your mental and physical health are connected—especially when temperatures rise. Stay informed, stay hydrated, and take care of yourself. 💙

🚨 Medicaid work reporting requirements are moving forward—and people with mental illness could be at risk of losing health coverage.

New federal rules released by HHS outline how Medicaid work reporting requirements will be implemented beginning January 1, 2027. While Congress included exemptions for people with a “disabling mental disorder” and other serious health conditions, NAMI is deeply concerned that the Administration’s definition of “medical frailty” is too narrow and could leave many people without the protections they need.

Mental health conditions are often cyclical. Someone may be able to work at one point in time and later experience symptoms that make meeting work requirements difficult. No one should lose access to Medicaid when they need mental health care the most.

📢 Take action today: Contact your Members of Congress and urge them to prevent these harmful rules from going into effect as written.
