"Your Father knows what you need before you ask him." - Jesus (Matthew 6:8)
Have you ever experienced God providing something that you needed immediately after you prayed for it? While this is usually not the case, God will sometimes remind us that he is way ahead of us.
Last week, during our homeless street outreach, we prayed together for a couple of homeless friends who were in the hospital. Immediately after saying "In Jesus name. Amen!" one of those people walked up behind us having just returned from the hospital. It was so timely that everyone broke out into laughter. Then today, we were told by the same prayer group that the other person we had been praying for arrived back from the hospital before we had even made it back to our car on the other side of the park. But this time, they weren't laughing -- because they were completely blown away!
If faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not yet seen (Hebrews 11:1), then faith grew in the hearts our homeless friends that day. It reminded everyone there that God is already at work around us, even when we can't see or know the outcome. This is why we pray, not because prayer is powerful, but because God is already powerfully active in our lives.
