Lies I was told about guardianship by the system:

Your son will hate you. ❌
You will be exhausted because you have to attend every meeting to sign things. ❌
Your relationship with your son will change. ❌
You are financially responsible for any damages he incurs while in psychosis. ❌

14 years ago this week I became my son’s guardian. Not one of those things ever came true.

Don’t ever apologize for getting guardianship or advocating for your adult child who battles serious mental illness. You may be the only voice he or she has.

And remember, we are the ones who needed an advocate first.

Deuteronomy 3:22

You shall not fear them, for it is the LORD your God who fights for you.

Side note: I just learned we can file our reports online now in Maricopa County. Maybe I’m the last to know 🤷‍♀️

“It is time to stop asking families to stand outside the doors of treatment in the dark. Real compassion opens the door before a loved one is lost to the street, the jail, the emergency room, or the grave.”

Families do not need more awareness. We need a path to treatment.

You didn’t just make the match, you surpassed it!
We are grateful to the Lord and to this generous community for helping Kenny’s Home reach this important milestone.

The match is complete, but the work is just beginning. There are still details to finish and hurdles to overcome as we pioneer a new model of community, support, and stability. We move forward with grateful hearts, humility, and confidence, one step at a time.

I’m sharing my Favorite Hymns and Lamentations playlist, a small, carefully curated collection I’ve gathered over the years. Many of these songs became my desperate prayers during seasons of deep crisis.

I was drawn to music that reminded me of the truth of who God is and the promises He gives to those who trust Him because, honestly, that is what I needed most.
