This Hispanic Heritage Month, NAHN Phoenix is proud to spotlight one of the incredible women who has helped shape our chapter and our national organization, Dra. Veronica Vital, PhD, MSN, MLS, RN! 💙✨

Dra. Vital is a former NAHN Phoenix President and the immediate past President of NAHN. Her decades of leadership, service, mentorship, research, and advocacy have left an incredible impact on our NAHN familia.

Dra. Vital has been a member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses since 1997. During her time as a national leader, she served seven years on the NAHN Board of Directors, including as Bylaws Committee Chair and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee Chair, as well as Nominating Committee Chair. Locally, she has served multiple terms as President and Vice President of the NAHN Phoenix Chapter.

Her leadership has helped bring major national initiatives to Phoenix, including MueveteUSA, the Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA), the All of Us Research Program in Latino Communities, and the Pfizer Vaccine Partnership. She also co-led the Mentorship Academy, helping create opportunities for nurses and future leaders.

Beyond NAHN, Dra. Vital continues to serve as a champion for nursing and health equity through national and community organizations, including the Nurses on Boards Coalition, NCEMNA, and the National Minority Health Alliance. She has also served on the U.S. Office of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Minority Health.

Her dedication and leadership have been recognized with numerous honors, including the 2022 March of Dimes Arizona Distinguished Nurse of the Year Award and the 2020 March of Dimes Arizona Nurse of the Year Award for Outpatient/Community and Public Health.

Dra. Vital, thank you for your years of leadership, your commitment to our community, and the legacy you continue to build for Hispanic nurses everywhere. We are proud to call you part of our NAHN Phoenix familia! 🩵

If you don’t know this face yet, let us introduce you to the heart and leader of our NAHN Phoenix familia! ✨ Cassandra has stepped into the role of President with deep humility, compassion, and a strong commitment to serving our nurses, our community, and the mission of NAHN.

We are honored to have Cassandra leading our chapter and look forward to the continued work of advocating for nurses, strengthening trust within our communities, and advancing health equity across the Valley. 🩵

Words from your President

It is with deep humility and heartfelt gratitude that I step into the role of President of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses – Phoenix Chapter. Serving our community has always been at the core of who I am, and to represent this chapter—one that has shaped my growth as a nurse and leader—is a profound honor. NAHN has been a constant source of guidance, inspiration, and purpose in my journey, and I am deeply committed to carrying our mission forward with intention and care.

As nurses, leaders, students, and advocates, our journeys are as diverse as the communities we serve. They are not always linear, nor are they easy—but they are powerful. What sustains us is the strength we find in one another when we uplift, mentor, and advocate with compassion, we create space for every voice when we lead with empathy and courage. This spirit of unity and service is the heartbeat of NAHN Phoenix.

In the years ahead, I look forward to working alongside our Board, our members, and our community partners to advocate fiercely for our nurses, strengthen trust within our communities, and advance health equity across the Valley.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, NAHN Phoenix is proud to spotlight Patricia “Pat” Galaviz! 💙

Pat is a warm, dedicated, and valued member of our NAHN Phoenix familia. Although she is not a nurse, Pat has become a tremendous part of our chapter and is passionate about promoting and supporting the mission of NAHN Phoenix and serving our community.

Her dedication to NAHN Phoenix was recognized last December when she received the Compañero Award! 🏆✨ This award celebrates the meaningful contributions of individuals who support and advance the work of our organization.

Pat was also instrumental in helping NAHN Phoenix create the RED Cards, Know Your Rights cards designed to provide reassurance and important information to community members during uncertainty surrounding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her support helped us share resources and stand with our community when they needed it most. ❤️

Pat works full-time at Mayo Clinic Hospital as a receptionist supporting Mayo Clinic executives. She also volunteers with Mayo Clinic and is an active volunteer at Most Holy Trinity, where she supports her church community and its programs.

She is also a proud and active member of the Latino MERG group at Mayo Clinic Hospital, where she brings her enthusiasm, collaborative spirit, and dedication to community.

Outside of her work and volunteer commitments, Pat enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and traveling. Her warmth, generosity, and commitment to service are felt everywhere she goes.

Thank you, Pat, for being such an important part of our NAHN Phoenix familia and for helping us carry our mission into the community! 🩵
