Our Mission:

To create equitable access to reproductive health care for womb bearing people while centering Black and Indigenous People of Color.

The Mission of Desert Star Institute for Family Planning, Inc is to create equitable access to reproductive and sexual health care while centering Black and Indigenous people of color. Our Vision:

Access to the full range of just, dignified, and exceptional reproductive health care is available to people who can become pregnant regardless of circumstance or zip code and is provided by compassionate health care professionals who also advocate for reproductive health and justice in their communities. Our Priorities:

Train the next generation of abortion providers within a framework that focuses on the whole person and provides a unique understanding of the barriers historically marginalized people may encounter in medical communities where they've felt excluded. Deliver educational content and programs that help people from historically marginalized communities access reproductive health care and exercise autonomy over their bodies and lives. Engage, build relationships, and mobilize local policy makers, advocates, and community members directly impacted by harmful policies toward an Arizona that provides the conditions for people to freely decide when and how to form families and raise children.

🌈 LGBTQ History Month was founded in 1994 by educator Rodney Wilson to ensure LGBTQ stories, achievements, and role models are seen, celebrated, and remembered.

📚 While Pride Month honors the fight for LGBTQ rights, LGBTQ History Month shines a light on the people, movements, and milestones that shaped our community and continue to inspire future generations.

🏳️‍🌈 From activists and artists to leaders and everyday changemakers, this month is a chance to learn our history, celebrate our resilience, and recognize the contributions too often left out of traditional education.

🌍 Now celebrated around the world, LGBTQ History Month reminds us that our history matters, our stories matter, and our community deserves to be celebrated.

Drug testing is not healthcare when it’s used as surveillance. 🙅🏾‍♀️

Black and Indigenous families are disproportionately targeted, often without informed consent, and face the highest risks of family separation, criminalization, and harm. ⚠️

Everyone deserves the right to make decisions about their body, access care without fear, and parent their children with dignity. That’s reproductive justice. ✊🏿🌟

Drug testing during pregnancy and birth does not improve health outcomes. Instead, the threat of testing and legal consequences can push people away from prenatal care and substance use treatment when they need support most. 👏🏿

🗣️ Let's break the myth: abortion is not just for cis women. Gender-diverse people have abortions, too.

Pregnancy can happen regardless of gender identity, including for some people using gender-affirming hormones or contraception.

Everyone deserves access to abortion care that is affirming, inclusive, and free from discrimination.

✨🤌🏾 And… Another One!
Another future abortion provider and reproductive justice advocate has completed their training at our Health Justice Clinic! 👏🏾💜

Last Friday, we celebrated Student Doctor Pooja as she completed her rotation with us. Over the past three weeks, Pooja brought an incredible combination of empathy, passion, curiosity, and humility to every aspect of her training. Her open-minded approach, eagerness to learn, and genuine commitment to patient-centered care made her a valued member of our team from day one. ✨🌵🩺

Pooja consistently met patients with compassion, respect, and deep attentiveness, helping create spaces where people felt heard, affirmed, and supported in their healthcare decisions. As an aspiring OB/GYN physician participating in the Next Generation of Abortion Providers Program (NGAPP), Pooja represents the future of equitable reproductive healthcare. Her dedication to serving diverse communities and advancing healthcare access gives us hope for the next generation of providers. 💜

The NGAPP is at the heart of why Desert Star Institute for Family Planning was founded nine years ago.

Even before the overturning of Roe v. Wade, opportunities for abortion training were disappearing across the country. We answered the call to train. 💪🏾

Today, Pooja joins a growing network of future providers committed to expanding access, protecting bodily autonomy, and ensuring compassionate care for all.

She is the 6th of 12 trainees joining us in 2026, contributing to a total of 42 weeks of abortion training this year. With rotations booked through December 2027, we are proud to continue building the next generation of providers our communities deserve. ✨

We advocate, we train, and we provide... because Reproductive Justice is for Everybody. 💖💯

Demand accountability for pregnant people in detained by ICE. ✊🏾

ICE recorded 18 miscarriages during the first nine months of the Trump administration, then lost track of miscarriage data after October 3, 2025, while detaining a record number of pregnant people. 📈

This is more than missing data. It's people being denied care. ❌

Women who experienced miscarriages and pregnancy complications reported receiving little to no follow-up care. Others were unable to access critical medications and treatments during pregnancy, putting their health and their pregnancies at risk. 😷

🌟 Reproductive justice means every person has the right to safe, respectful, and comprehensive pregnancy care, regardless of immigration status. No one should be forced to navigate pregnancy, miscarriage, or medical complications without the care they need.
