Desert Star Institute for Family Planning, Inc Our Mission:

To create equitable access to reproductive health care for womb bearing people while centering Black and Indigenous People of Color.

The Mission of Desert Star Institute for Family Planning, Inc is to create equitable access to reproductive and sexual health care while centering Black and Indigenous people of color. Our Vision:

Access to the full range of just, dignified, and exceptional reproductive health care is available to people who can become pregnant regardless of circumstance or zip code and is provided by compassiona

te health care professionals who also advocate for reproductive health and justice in their communities. Our Priorities:

Train the next generation of abortion providers within a framework that focuses on the whole person and provides a unique understanding of the barriers historically marginalized people may encounter in medical communities where they've felt excluded. Deliver educational content and programs that help people from historically marginalized communities access reproductive health care and exercise autonomy over their bodies and lives. Engage, build relationships, and mobilize local policy makers, advocates, and community members directly impacted by harmful policies toward an Arizona that provides the conditions for people to freely decide when and how to form families and raise children.

This June we want to wish everyone a Happy Pride Month 🌈 and to remember one of the pioneers who ignited the Pride movement long before the rainbow logos and parades, Marsha P. Johnson. She was a Black trans woman, a fierce advocate and mother to many, who cared for LGBTQ+ youth and many more when no one else would. May her legacy inspire us to stand with and protect the most underserved among us. ✊

And in case no one told you today: You matter. You are valid. You are loved. And you are always welcome here.

Happy ! With love, Desert Star 💜

May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! 💮

We celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. Their voices, leadership, and lived experiences have long shaped movements for justice—including reproductive justice—bringing strength, resilience, and cultural wisdom to every generation.

We recognize that AANHPI communities continue to face barriers to abortion like language access, immigration status, and cultural stigma around abortion. Desert Star Institute is proud to support these diverse communities to ensure they have equitable access to compassionate, just, and dignified care, no matter what.

Today we honor every brave individual who laid down their lives for freedom—as well as their families, who carry the weight of their sacrifice every day.

Memorial Day began on May 1, 1865, through the efforts of the Black community in Charleston, South Carolina, who held a ceremony to honor fallen Union soldiers who died fighting to end slavery. Black Americans turned mourning into a movement, and we remain committed to carrying on their legacy.

The same battle for liberty is being fought right now in our own communities. We are currently on the front lines defending:

👉🏾 Voting Rights & Civil Liberties
👉🏾 Bodily Autonomy & Healthcare Access
👉🏾 Gender Equity & Public Education

We honor our American heroes not just with words, but by defending the constitutional freedoms they died to protect. We remember, we are grateful, and we stay committed to the fight for liberation.

Hot days can be more than just uncomfortable during pregnancy, they can put real stress on your body and fetal development. 🌡️🤰

Knowing how to spot when your body needs help (and acting early) can make all the difference. Listen to your body, prioritize rest, and don’t hesitate to seek care if something feels off. Staying cool and hydrated is essential care. 💧

Not all pregnant people have the same protection from extreme heat. Structural inequities mean some communities face higher exposure and fewer resources to stay safe, making this both a health and justice issue.

🌿 We all have a role to play:
Support greener, cooler neighborhoods, advocate for clean air and accessible cooling, and speak up for policies that protect pregnant people and families.

Climate change is not just environmental, it’s a reproductive justice issue.
💛 Everyone deserves safe conditions for pregnancy and birth.

🌟 Join us for our 3rd Birth Justice Hub Meeting!

📅 Saturday, June 13
⏰ 11 AM – 1 PM

This month, we’re diving into perinatal and postpartum mental health for birth workers—because caring for those who care for others is a vital part of reproductive justice. 💛

Reproductive justice means not only the right to give birth, but to do so with dignity, support, and holistic care—and that includes ensuring birth workers have the resources, wellness, and community they need to sustain this work.

We’re honored to host a special presentation from Dr. Sharon Pedrosa, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who will guide us in exploring mental health, sustainability, and healing within our birth justice community.

✨ Want to be part of the hub? Scan the QR code or see the link in our bio to register! See you soon 😉

✨🤌🏾 And… Another One!

Another empowered and capable provider trained on abortion care and compassionate health care through a Reproductive Justice lens coming out of our Health Justice Clinic! 👏🏾💜

Dr. Blum finished her rotation with us today! She used her kindness, energy, and mindfulness to make every patient interaction she experienced in the clinic valuable for both her and her patients. We are so grateful to have had her as a part of our team for 3 weeks. As a Family Medicine Doc, her dedication to advancing the advocacy and well-being of the marginalized populations we serve demonstrates what a clear commitment to reproductive justice looks like. ✨🩺

Our Next Generation of Abortion Providers Program (NGAPP) is the heart of why Desert Star Institute for Family Planning was founded 9 years ago.

Before the overturn of Roe v. Wade, abortion training opportunities were already disappearing across the country—and we answered the call to train. 💪🏾 Dr. Blum is part of a growing cohort of future providers committed to equitable, compassionate reproductive healthcare. She’s the 6th of 12 trainees coming in to train with us for a total of 42 weeks of training for 2026 and we are booked into October of 2027.
We advocate, we train, and we provide…because Reproductive Justice is for Everybody 💖💯

We know that "Mother" is more than a title, it’s a verb. It is a constant cycle of nurturing, protecting, and fiercely advocating for the future. 🤱🏾

Today, we honor the women who have paved the way, the icons and the caregivers who fight for freedom and pour their love into the next generation.

We celebrate the biological mothers, the chosen family, the aunties, and the healers for their compassion and unwavering strength. 🤎

In the spirit of our mission, we recognize that true honor for motherhood comes with the power of self determination, health, and justice. We stand committed to ensuring every person has the right to parent in safe and sustainable communities.

To the nurturers who give us life and the activists who give us hope: We see you. We thank you. We honor you.

Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸

Access to medication abortion is still here—and it matters. 💜

Mifepristone remains safe, effective, and legal, and access is critical to reproductive justice. Reproductive justice means more than just the right to make decisions—it’s about having the resources, access, and support to actually receive care, no matter who you are or where you live.

Right now, that access is being challenged. Courts continue to target medication abortion by:
• Limiting telehealth and mail delivery options
• Targeting providers and those who support patients—even across state lines
• Challenging the FDA’s authority over safe, evidence-based medications

These attacks disproportionately impact communities already facing barriers to care—especially those in rural areas, those with limited income, and those who cannot easily travel. Restricting medication abortion isn’t just about policy—it’s about restricting real people’s ability to access timely, safe healthcare.

Desert Star Institute for Family Planning remains committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate abortion care. We offer medication abortion services up to 11 weeks of pregnancy.
