Before finding this community, Tegan struggled at school and felt different because others would constantly ask questions about what she was doing, making her not want to attend.
At camp, Tegan is happier and smiles more because she is surrounded by people who “get her” without labeling her or asking constant questions.
The environment allows Tegan to connect easily and make friends, which has also helped the speaker build their own support network of friends.

Managing diabetes is an invisible, daily mental battle that requires more support than most people realize. To our community: remember that you are never alone. Lean into your support systems, leverage technology as your friend, and don’t be afraid to ask questions in groups like Facebook and TikTok.

To everyone else: the medical devices you see on the outside are only a small part of the story. Reach out to your diabetic friends or family members today—give them a hug and let them know how proud you are of their strength.
