Erica MacLean is currently a twenty-two year old Undergraduate Dance Major at the University of Utah. At the age of sixteen, she began training in dance at SunnySlope High School under the direction of Ashley Law, continued at Glendale Community College under the direction of Rebecca Rabideau, and briefly at Arizona State University under the direction of Mary Fitzgerald. In past years, Erica has
performed with VERVE Dance Company where she received the opportunity to work with hugely talented choreographers, such as Mariah Maloney, Paola Hartley, Eric Handman, and Guy Thorne. Over time, Erica has developed a passion for the creative aspect of dance. Within the past year, she has been relatively busy taking on the challenge of creating nine different choreographic projects, and in 2014 won several awards at the Maricopa Community College Choreography Competition. First place in group performance for her for small group "No Objects", and third place in group performance for a collaborative work with Urian Owens entitled "Deau Effect", which also received honorable mention in choreography. Erica and Urian were also selected to perform "Deau Effect" at the 2014 American College Dance Association in the adjudicated concert series. Out of the nine pieces, several have been selected performed in local venues such as Beta Dance Festival, Arizona Dance Festival, Live Artists Platform, GCC’s Mainstage show, and American Voices. They also have been auditioned for the “Inside/Out” show at Jacob’s Pillow, and “Breaking Ground” at Conder Dance. After Erica completes her BFA in dance performance, she hopes to attain her MFA in choreography from an east coast university. In the future, she also hopes to become the director of a college dance program or work as a choreographer for a variety of dance companies, both modern and commercial.
