When a Veteran reaches a breaking point, the last thing that should stand between them and care is a question about enrollment status or the fear of an overwhelming bill.

The Veterans COMPACT Act of 2020 was designed with that truth in mind. It exists to ensure that eligible Veterans in an acute suicidal crisis can access emergency care when they need it most, regardless of whether they are currently enrolled in VA healthcare.

Here is what it may cover:

- Up to 30 days of inpatient or crisis residential care
- Up to 90 days of follow-up outpatient care
- Emergency transportation to the care facility, including ambulance and air ambulance, at no cost to the Veteran

No Veteran in crisis should ever be turned away. If you or someone you love is struggling, this coverage may apply, and help is more accessible than you think.

🇺🇸 Last week, VMLC board member Joel M. visited Basha Elementary School to hand deliver Red Robin gift cards to teachers who are military spouses or family members, a small but meaningful gesture of gratitude for the families who serve alongside our Veterans every day.

The gift cards were made possible by Red Robin 🍔 customers who chose to support our military community through their dining, a reminder that everyday moments like sharing a meal can ripple out into something much larger.

To the military family members serving our children at Basha Elementary, thank you. We see you and we are grateful. 💙

This week, VMLC President Tom Eisiminger was in Payson to accept a generous $4,750 check from American Legion Post #69 and their Legion Riders. During his remarks, Tom spoke about the COMPACT Act - the federal law that allows any Veteran in a mental health crisis to walk into any emergency room in the country and receive care with the VA covering the cost.

Not ONE Legion member in the room had heard of it.

Later that evening, that information may have saved a life.

We want to say thank you to Army Veterans Stan Miele and his brother Dan, who together completed a 65-mile bike ride and 12-mile ruck march to raise funds for Arizona Veterans in crisis.

At the VMLC, we believe in advocating for Veterans AND equipping them to advocate for themselves. Knowing that help exists, and knowing what to ask for, can make all the difference at the most critical moment. If you know a Veteran, please share this.

The COMPACT Act of 2020 exists to ensure that Veterans in crisis can access emergency mental health care without being turned away due to VA enrollment status or the fear of cost. But a law that isn’t widely known can’t save lives.

🇺🇸 If you are a Veteran, a family member of a Veteran, or someone who works alongside Veterans, please share this post. The people who need this information most are often the least likely to have seen it.

📌 Here is what to know:

‣ Veterans in an acute suicidal crisis may be eligible for up to 30 days of inpatient care and 90 days of outpatient follow-up care at no cost
‣ Emergency transportation is covered
‣ You do not have to be enrolled in VA healthcare to qualify

📲 If you or someone you know is in crisis right now, please call or text 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line. Help is there.

Happy 232nd Birthday to the United States Coast Guard! ⚓🇺🇸

For 232 years, the men and women of the Coast Guard have answered the call to protect our shores, rescue those in peril, and serve with a quiet and unwavering dedication that deserves far more recognition than it often receives.

To every Coast Guard Veteran and every member serving today, the VMLC honors your service and your sacrifice. Thank you. 💙

In the middle of an Arizona summer, a broken A/C is more than an inconvenience. For a Veteran already facing crisis, it can feel like the final straw.

Sometimes the smallest intervention at the right moment opens the door to more stability, more hope, and a Veteran who begins to believe that things can get better. ☀️

That is what your donation makes possible. Not just a bill paid or a repair made, but a turning point. A moment where someone who was spiraling begins to find their footing again.

Arizona Veterans in crisis deserve that chance, and with your support, the VMLC can be there to provide it. Donate today at the link in bio. 🇺🇸

The 2026 VMLC Heroes Gala is coming faster than you think, and every seat in that room represents something much bigger than a night out.

On November 13th at the Arizona Biltmore, we will gather as a community united around one truth: no Arizona Veteran should ever face crisis alone. The energy, the impact, and the connections made at this event carry the mission forward in ways that last long after the evening ends.

Don’t wait until the last moment to be part of it. Secure your tickets now and help us make this the most impactful Gala yet. Link in bio. 💙
