Mary Eliza Mahoney made nursing history on this day in 1879.

After graduating from the New England Hospital for Women and Children, she became the first professionally trained Black nurse in the United States.

She later helped co-found the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses, creating more support and recognition for Black nurses.

This National Black Nurses Week, we honor her legacy and the doors she opened.

Today, BNAGPA had the incredible opportunity to attend an inspiring networking event at ASU’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation — and what an impactful experience it was! ✨

We connected with so many bright, driven students ranging from BSN to DNP who are preparing to step boldly into the next chapter of their nursing journeys. Being able to share our mission, our purpose, and the work we’re doing in the community was truly meaningful.

The energy in the room was unmatched — new potential partnerships were sparked, future collaborations discussed, and even potential sponsorship opportunities emerged. It’s powerful to see others eager to align with the vision and invest in advancing healthcare within our communities.

A special shoutout to Trista Campbell and Madam President LaShandra Wilson-Cohen for representing BNAGPA with excellence and passion at this amazing event. Your presence continues to open doors and create lasting impact!

The future is bright — and we’re just getting started!
