We don’t even really know how to write this.

We made the difficult decision to let Barkley pass peacefully today.

We saved him from the shelter just a week ago, and since then, we have done absolutely everything we could to try to save him. But it wasn’t enough—and honestly, that is really hard to accept.

We’ll probably always wish we could have done more for him. That’s just part of rescue. You can give everything you have to a dog and still sometimes have to let them go.

We don’t have many words right now. Just a really, really heavy heart.

We know so many of you were rooting for Barkley. You donated, shared, checked in and you cared. You became the family Barkley never had and we are so incredibly grateful that he knew that kind of love before he left us.

We’re so sorry, Barkley. You deserved so much more time.

We are heading into day two of Barkley being hospitalized, and unfortunately, he still has a long way to go.

If we don’t see some improvement by tomorrow, there is a possibility that we will need to transfer him to a specialty hospital so he can get the level of care he needs.

And that means the original estimate we were given has now essentially doubled… and because Barkley is still not out of the woods, we know his medical expenses are going to continue to climb.

To everyone who has donated for Barkley so far — THANK YOU. Seriously. We cannot tell you how much it means to us.

If you haven’t donated and are able to help, even a small amount would mean so much. We don’t expect one person to cover his bill, but if enough people give what they can, we can hopefully raise even a fraction of what Barkley’s care is going to cost.

Please keep Barkley in your thoughts and, if you can, help us continue to give him the care he needs🙏🏻

If Ritz had a View-Master of his journey, it would look a little something like this. 🤍

Born with hip dysplasia and suspected cerebellar hypoplasia, Ritz had been living for years with untreated medical needs. After he was found as a stray and his owner was located but didn’t want him back, we knew his story couldn’t end there.

Ritz immediately received the hip surgery and physical therapy he so desperately needed, and since then, he’s made more progress than we ever imagined possible.

While he’ll always have his own way of getting around, it will never stop him from living life to the absolute fullest.

But, as everyone in animal rescue knows, finding adopters for special needs dogs is hard.

So we thought maybe if you saw Ritz’s journey, you’d see just a glimpse of what we see. You’d see how much he’s overcome. How much love he brings into every room. And how much joy he finds in simply being *here.*

And maybe you’d see that a dog who needs just a little extra can give you more than you ever imagined. Maybe you weren’t exactly ‘looking’ for a special-needs dog. You were just looking for Ritz.

I’ve been feeling an overwhelming amount of gratitude lately for what this sanctuary and rescue has somehow become.

So many people have decided these dogs matter. And every person brings something different. Every contribution looks different. But every single piece matters.

And somehow, all of it has found its way here.

Thank you for creating a place where love has somewhere to go.
