The Brittney Cohn Project

The Brittney Cohn Project Through Brittney’s story, awareness grows and voices are heard.

Speaking up for those suffering from addiction, trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual violence — and for families still searching for answers.

There are no headlines for girls like Brittney.

No breaking news. No coverage. No cameras. Girls like her don't get headlines. They get forgotten.

That's why I share her story. Not because it's easy — because it's uncomfortable.

That's why it's so important to share people's posts when they talk about awareness or advocacy. It's hard enough to fight to be seen. Let's be honest — social media doesn't like to put harsh realities in front of people.

The truth about what happened to her is uncomfortable. Uncomfortable truths are the ones that need telling.

Because every time her story is told, she lives on. Every time someone hears it and thinks "that's me" — she becomes someone else's strength.

Brittney's voice didn't end. It's still here. It's still helping people find theirs.

Say her name. Brittney Cohn. 💜

It’s amazing how some people conduct themselves when they think no one is paying attention.

And it appears we have a disturbing pattern here.

Why are people in positions of authority, entrusted with protecting victims, speaking about them this way?

This isn’t just about one inappropriate comment. It’s about the attitudes behind those words and the culture that allows them to continue.
It’s unacceptable. It needs to change.

And if speaking up is what it takes to bring attention to it, then I have no intention of staying quiet anymore.

Arizona got graded on how it protects trafficking survivors.

The grade? 🚨F

Shared Hope International's 2025 report card ranked Arizona 31st in the nation. The gaps: survivors' access to services, clearing criminal records tied to their exploitation, and protections against being criminalized for what was done to them.

Read that again. In Arizona, trafficking survivors can still be treated like criminals for the crimes committed against them.

These aren't abstract policy gaps. They're the ones my daughter fell through.

An F is not good enough — not for Brittney, not for anyone.

We keep telling people struggling with addiction to get help. But what happens when they're terrified of what getting help will feel like?
The fear of withdrawal can be enough to keep someone from walking through the door. We need treatment that meets people with compassion, manages symptoms, and gives them a real reason to stay.
Nobody should have to earn dignity by getting better first.

I don't need a textbook to understand mental health. I buried my daughter. 💜

Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year's theme is "Lived experiences heard — real voices, real change."

That's not a slogan to me. That's Brittney's story.

She was trafficked. She was exploited. The trauma lived in her mind, and the system didn’t believe her.

That's every victim blamed for what was done to them. Every family told to stay quiet. Every mother still fighting to be believed.

If you've lived it — the grief, the trauma, the system that failed you — your voice is not too much. It's not a burden.

It's evidence. It's expertise.

So tell it. Drop a 💜 for who you're holding in your heart today.

She did everything right. She reported it, named him and asked for prosecution. The prosecutor has no record of it, and months later I lost her. Who decides which victims get a case?

My office is complete. I spend hours in here most days sorting through everything Brittney left behind. So many big things are yet to be told. I can’t wait to share when the time is right. Thank you to all that has supported me through this journey and to everyone who always shows up no matter what. Especially my husband Jason Kokkeler I wouldn’t have made it a day without you. Thank you honey for all that you do!
