Fun fact: milkweed seed pods pop open when they are ripe and the seeds get carried off by the wind. We keep them from doing that by bagging the pods as they develop. There are so many milkweed pods right now we keep running out of bags!

Spring has been an important learning experience for us in our Seed Orchard. As you may have noticed, the grasshoppers were plentiful earlier this season and they REALLY liked some of our crops. They ate the Conoclinium greggii and Bebbia juncea to the ground and they severely impacted the seed harvest for Penstemon parryi.
The good news is that now that the grasshoppers are gone, our plants are making a comeback!
