We had our first monarch sighting at the orchard on the Arizona Milkweed. Not sure, but we think it might have been a female. We'll do an update if we find eggs. 😁🦋

What a great day! Our Deputy Director, two Board Members, and a volunteer spent the morning planting Bothriochloa barbinodis, aka Cane bluestem, at the seed orchard in Safford. Some of us lovingly call this native plant, “blueberry grass” because the seed heads, when crushed, small like blueberries.

We hope to see these gems prosper with some irrigation and monsoon rains. These wild collected seed should be looking forward to the rain, and will hopefully produce an exponential crop of seed.

This fall we anticipate increasing our plantings to further diversify our seed.
