“Our goal was never FKT but rather to take an old classic linkup and add a modern flare to it.”
Last month, Phoenix-based climbers Phoenix Parker and Cole Truitt decided to take a trip up north for an extraordinarily impressive and likely yet undone sufferfest of the highest, arbitrary magnitude: the Sedona Quadruple Crown.
This adds Coyote Tower (5.10c) to the already stacked deck of this classic linkup, which includes the North Face/West Crack (5.9+) of Oak Creek Spire, the Original Route (5.9+) of The Mace, and Dr. Rubo’s Wild Ride (5.9+) of Coffeepot Rock.

“On a recent sunny hot day, Cole Truitt and myself did what we believe might be the first ever Sedona Quadruple Crown. Our go at the classic triple linkup not only included all the original towers but an additional classic, Coyote Tower (with the jump across to Courthouse Butte). Our linkup was not only a free, no falls ascent, but was also a completely man-powered trek, opting for the use of bicycles over cars. Every tower was simul climbed including all jump-acrosses and step-overs.
Our journey began in the dark. As we took off on the Oak Creek Spire approach trail, we arrived at the base of the climb around sunrise and climbed Oak Creek Spire in about 40 minutes. We then hiked straight over from OCS to Coyote and climbed Coyote in two blocks in just under 2 hours. Afterwards, we hiked back to Courthouse Butte trailhead where our bikes were stashed, hopped on ‘em and rode up a grueling hill to Cathedral Rock trailhead. From there, we boogied up to the Mace and climbed it as two pitches in an hour and ten minutes. We rushed back down and rode the bikes all the way to Whole Foods for a quick beverage pit stop, where we fueled up on diet, alternative Sprite and juice. Continuing on to the doctor where we finished our day in the dark with a 50 minute sprint up Dr. Rubo’s as one pitch. Our 16-hour endurofest had finally come to a close.“
