Our mission is to prevent the financial exploitation and defrauding of the elderly through advocacy and education. seeks to create change by educating and providing awareness of financial scams that typically target the older/elderly population, with a focus on those age 60 and over. We have seen a drastic increase in the number of victims over the age of 60 and monetary loss due to the financial scams and our goal is to reduce the number of victims and monetary loss.

💡 TIP TUESDAY: Protect Your Six-Digit Security Codes

That six-digit code your bank texts you is meant to protect your account—but scammers may try to steal it. A fake bank representative might call about “suspicious activity” and ask you to read the code aloud, while a phishing website may trick you into entering it. Criminals can also use a SIM-swap attack to transfer your phone number to their device and intercept your calls and texts.

New SIM-based technology may eventually allow banks to verify customers without sending a code, but it has not been widely adopted yet. Until then, protect yourself by following these tips:

🔐 Never share a verification code with someone who calls or texts you—even if they claim to be from your bank.

📱 Add a PIN, number lock or port-out protection to your wireless account.

🔑 Use a passkey or authenticator app when your financial institution offers one.

☎️ If you receive an unexpected bank call, hang up and call the number on the back of your card or inside the official banking app.

🚨 If your phone suddenly loses cellular service, contact your carrier immediately. It could be a warning sign that someone is attempting to transfer your number.

Remember: A verification code is for you—not for the person on the phone.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Don’t Ask Siri to Call Your Bank

Using a voice assistant to call your bank or credit card company may seem convenient—but it could connect you to a fraudulent customer-service number.

In one reported case, an 82-year-old woman asked Siri to call American Express and was connected to a scammer. The conversation eventually shifted to her bank account, where a supposed $1,000 credit suddenly became $100,000. The scammer claimed the “overpayment” could not be corrected and instructed her to return the money. Thankfully, she recognized the warning signs, ended the call and froze her account before losing her retirement savings.

Scammers can place fake customer-service numbers in online search results and business listings. When a voice assistant uses that information, you may unknowingly be connected directly to a criminal.

Protect yourself:

⚠️ Call financial institutions using the number printed on the back of your card or listed inside the official app.

⚠️ Never transfer money to “protect” an account or return an unexpected overpayment without independently verifying it.

⚠️ Never share verification codes, passwords or account information over an unverified call.

⚠️ Do not install remote-access software at the request of someone claiming to represent your bank.

If a conversation becomes confusing, urgent or suddenly involves another account, hang up and call your financial institution directly using a trusted number.

A call you initiate is not automatically a safe call. Always verify the number before discussing your finances.

💡 TIP TUESDAY: Don’t Let One Stolen Password Unlock Everything!

Reusing the same password creates a domino effect. If one account is exposed in a data breach, scammers may try that password on your email, banking, shopping, social media and medical accounts.

Protect yourself by using a long, unique password for every account, storing passwords in a trusted password manager and enabling multi-factor authentication whenever possible.

Change a password immediately if it has been reused, exposed in a breach or connected to suspicious activity. Avoid predictable updates like changing “Summer2026!” to “Fall2026!”

Remember: One breach should affect only one account—not your entire digital life.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fake Bank Websites Are Appearing in Search Ads

Scammers are purchasing sponsored Google and Bing ads that appear when people search for their bank. These ads can lead to convincing, lookalike websites designed to steal usernames, passwords and one-time security codes. Once scammers gain access, they may attempt to transfer money from the victim’s real account.

Remember: A “Sponsored” label means someone paid for the ad—it does not mean the website has been verified as legitimate.

Protect your accounts by using your bank’s official app or a trusted bookmark instead of clicking search results. Always check the full web address before entering login information, keep multifactor authentication enabled and never share a verification code with someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

If you entered your information on a suspicious website, contact your bank immediately using the number on your card or statement. Change the exposed password, review your account activity and report unauthorized transfers as quickly as possible.

A few extra seconds spent verifying the website could protect your savings.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fake Apple Pay Purchase Texts

Scammers are sending text messages that appear to come from “Apple Pay Support.” The message claims a recent Apple Store purchase is being held because of suspicious activity and provides a phone number to call if you don’t recognize the transaction.

Since no purchase was made, the message is designed to create concern and convince you to call. Once connected, scammers may ask for personal or financial information, request a verification code, demand payment or attempt to gain access to your device.

If you receive a message like this:

• Do not call the number provided.
• Do not reply or share personal information.
• Check your Apple account and financial statements independently.
• Contact Apple through its official website or a trusted phone number.
• Delete the message and report it as Junk or Spam.

Remember: Never use the contact information provided in a suspicious message. Always pause, verify independently and contact the company directly.
