๐Ÿšจ **SCAM ALERT: AI Voice Cloning Scams Are Targeting Families**

Imagine receiving a call from your child or grandchild. They're crying, scared, and begging for help. They need money immediately.

The frightening part? It may not actually be them.

Scammers are now using artificial intelligence (AI) to clone a loved one's voice using just a few seconds of audio from social media videos, voicemails, or online recordings. They create fake emergencies designed to trigger fear, urgency, and panic.

Before sending money or sharing personal information:

โœ… Hang up and call your loved one back using a number you already know.
โœ… Create a family "safe word" that only family members know.
โœ… Be suspicious of requests for wire transfers, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or cash pickups.
โœ… Remember: Scammers want you to act fast. Real emergencies can wait a few minutes for verification.

At R.O.S.E. Advocacy, we remind families that technology is changing, but the best defense remains the same: Pause. Verify. Protect.

Share this alert with parents, grandparents, and caregivers to help stop AI-powered scams before they happen.

๐Ÿšจ DATA BREACH ALERT: AURA ๐Ÿšจ

In an unfortunate twist, identity protection company **Aura** has confirmed a data breach impacting approximately 900,000 records after a cybercriminal reportedly used a voice phishing ("vishing") attack to gain access through an employee. The exposed data primarily included names and email addresses from a marketing database associated with a company Aura acquired in 2021. While Social Security numbers, passwords, and financial information were not compromised, the incident highlights how quickly cybercriminals can exploit human trust.

If you are an Aura customer:

โœ” Watch for official notifications from Aura
โœ” Be cautious of emails, texts, or phone calls referencing the breach
โœ” Do not click links in unsolicited messages
โœ” Visit Aura's website directly for updates and information
โœ” Monitor accounts for suspicious activity
โœ” Enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible

This breach serves as an important reminder that scammers often use highly publicized data breaches as opportunities to launch convincing phishing attacks.

Stay informed. Stay vigilant. Share this alert with family and friends.

SCAM ALERT: Fake Google Subpoena Emails ๐Ÿšจ

Scammers are sending convincing emails that appear to come from Google, claiming a legal subpoena has been issued for access to your Gmail account. These messages often use official-looking logos, legal language, and urgent warnings designed to create fear and pressure you into clicking a link. Once clicked, scammers attempt to steal your login credentials and gain access to your personal information.

Protect Yourself:
โœ”๏ธ Google does not send legal subpoenas directly to users via email.
โœ”๏ธ Never click links or download attachments from unexpected legal notices.
โœ”๏ธ Enable multi-factor authentication on your accounts.
โœ”๏ธ Verify suspicious messages by going directly to Google's official websiteโ€”not through links in the email.

Remember: Scammers want you to react quickly. Take a moment, verify the source, and think before you click.

Teach. Protect. Partner.

๐Ÿšจ **SCAM ALERT: Summer Is Prime Time for Scammers**

While you're planning vacations, family gatherings, and summer adventures, scammers are planning too.

Experts warn that the six-week period between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July can be a particularly active time for fraud targeting retirees and older adults. Scammers take advantage of travel plans, changing family schedules, public Wi-Fi use, and increased online activity to make their schemes seem more believable.

Common summer scams include:
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Fake vacation rental listings
๐Ÿ“ž Grandparent and family emergency scams
๐Ÿ“ถ Public Wi-Fi phishing attacks
๐ŸŽ† Holiday-related impersonation scams

๐ŸŒน **How to Stay Protected This Summer:**

โœ… Book travel and rentals only through trusted platforms

โœ… Avoid sending money through wire transfers, gift cards, or payment apps to someone you haven't verified

โœ… Be cautious when using public Wi-Fi for banking or shopping

โœ… Wait until you're home to post vacation photos publicly

โœ… Create a family code word for emergencies

โœ… If you receive a call claiming a loved one is in trouble, hang up and call them directly using a number you already know

Remember: Scammers thrive on urgency and emotion. Taking a few moments to verify information can help protect your finances, your identity, and your peace of mind.

๐ŸŒน Pause. Verify. Protect.

Share this post with parents, grandparents, caregivers, and anyone planning summer travel.

๐Ÿšจ SCAM ALERT: Medicare Fraud is Still Happening ๐Ÿšจ

A community member recently received a Medicare Summary Notice showing charges from a company they did not recognize. After contacting Medicare, it was reported as fraud โ€” and they now need an entirely new Medicare card.

The company listed? Potentially suspicious billing activity from a company called Gpaak Equipments LLC.

Remember:
โœ”๏ธ Review your Medicare Summary Notices carefully
โœ”๏ธ Question charges, equipment, or services you donโ€™t recognize
โœ”๏ธ Report suspicious activity immediately
โœ”๏ธ Never assume someone else is checking for errors

Scammers and fraudulent billing operations rely on people overlooking small details. Taking a few minutes to review your statements could save you from identity theft, financial loss, and medical fraud.
