We invite you to explore our many offerings that open a window into various beautiful cultures and people. We specialize in using story and taking our participants on a journey of discovery. Our training is interactive and offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and exploration while simultaneously learning inclusivity, the insidiousness of bias, and the importance of cultural sensitivity.

OUR PROGRAMS

Historical Trauma, Collective Trauma and Intergenerational Trauma are interchangeable terms used to describe the cumulative emotional and psychological wounding over the lifespan and across generations, emanating from massive group trauma. (Yellow Horse Brave Heart-Jordan). The new science of epigenetic teaches us that trauma is transmitted from one generation to the next via the physical DNA and environmental factors. We now know that up to 14 generations can be impacted through actual genetics after collective trauma occurs. That is to say, that 2nd and 3rd generation Holocaust survivors may have a change in their DNA resulting in PTSD, Anxiety, Depression and other dis-eases due to the impact of the Holocaust which they never physically experienced.

In the Andes of Peru, the traditional textiles that the indigenous people wear are not only made and worn for practical reasons, but they also form a crucial part of their cultural identity

Traditionally, the fabric used for these textiles is delicate alpaca, llama and vicuña wool, which is native to the Andean area. This wool is warm and versatile, with the weavers using bright coloured dyes to put their own stamp on their creations.

“Historical Trauma training is pertinent during this time because it is not aggressive or accusatory. Heal Historical Trauma creates a safe space; a talking circle to discuss important historical information that we don’t learn during our academic career. It’s paramount because, during the training, people receive information and have the opportunity to apply it for their own personal evolution as well as in service to the community.”

A total of 110 individuals representing staff, board members and supporters of the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth took part in the first level of “Historical Trauma Special Certification” training held via Zoom on Aug. 20 and 24. The attendees represented a variety of children and famil...

"Culture and ethnicity are intertwined with food. Food connects people to their childhood, family, and cultural traditions. With that being said, it's incredibly important that people of color understand that sacrificing their food and culture is not necessary for achieving good health." - Sobia Khan, M.Sc., R.D.
