SEED Philanthropy

SEED Philanthropy Student Chapter
An organization created to provide young African American males the opportunity to give back to their community. What is SEED?

www.azfoundation.org/Giving/Giving-Circles/SEED With an eye towards building a brighter future, members of REAP experienced a grassroots effort that was exciting. The children of many members began to inquire about philanthropy and ask questions like “What is a Giving Circle?”, “What is the Men of Distinction Dinner? and “How can I get involved?”

Before long, SEED was born which stands for Studen

ts Engaged in Ethical Donations (SEED), which is a philanthropic initiative for black youth in high school or college to share their time, talents and treasures with their community. While encouraging the youth to give back and teaching to them principles to build generational wealth, it was important that SEED become a part of REAP’s journey, and train to become legacy givers. Ultimately, SEED members will utilize their time and energy to make meaningful impact in their communities. SEED will fund smaller organizations throughout the valley, some student led and others that serve the youth.

We are proud to have had one of our founding members Basil Ribakare be a guest panelist at the ASU Women in Philanthropy Event. Basil had the great honor of getting the opportunity to speak about philanthropy, leadership, and his vision of the impact he strives to make in Arizona and the world. Great news!

Thanks to the sponsorship from Apex Transitional Housing Incorporated, we have decided to extend our drive until this Friday, October 18th!

We will continue collecting contributions at our participating locations (mentioned on the second slide of this post) until then, to ensure that this pantry remains stocked and prepared with items for the upcoming winter season, when these clothes will be in their highest demand.

On behalf of both the Guardian Angels and Community Christian churches, we at SEED would like to thank all of you for your support thus far. We hope that you’ll help us end our drive on a positive note!

SEED is proud to announce that this coming Monday will mark the beginning of our September of Service Clothing Drive. From September 9th to October 7th, we will be collecting clothing and footwear donations to support the distribution pantries of the Guardian Angels and Community Christian churches. Due to the permanent closure of the nearby Salvation Army center, these pantries are now facing an increased demand for their resources.

With our contributions coming in at a crucial time, your generosity can make a lasting difference in the lives of those in need. Please view the third slide attached for a list of collection bin locations.

We hope you enjoy your Sunday, and look forward to your aid in supporting those without the means to support themselves!

Happy Juneteenth from SEED:

As we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States today, we must all remember the long journey toward equality and the work that still lies ahead. On this Juneteenth, we hope you join us in honoring our country’s history and inspiring one another towards a future filled with unity and mutual respect. Today, we should all reflect on our history, recognize the strides we’ve made, and renew our shared commitment to supporting and aiding the fight for justice and equity. Though we’ve made it far, there remains a long road ahead, and will so remain without the continued dedication and collaboration of every member of our community. The engine of change starts with us.

SEED is thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Elijah Jenkins, a proud SEED alum, who has been elected as the Student Body President of the University of Chicago!

Elijah’s journey from SEED to the echelons of student leadership is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to service. Throughout his tenure at the university, Elijah has tirelessly worked to enhance resources for first-generation and low-income students, and played a pivotal role in advocating for the hiring of UChicago’s first Igbo professor. His efforts to train and guide current class representatives in effective campus advocacy have set a high standard for what passionate student leadership can achieve.

As he steps into his new role as President, Elijah is set to continue his advocacy, to forge a more equitable university experience for all. His vision for an inclusive and responsive student government resonates with the values we hold dear.

Join us in congratulating Elijah on this significant milestone. SEED is remarkably proud of you, Elijah, and we can’t wait to see the progress you will make in creating a better future for your fellow students and community. Here’s to many more achievements and a successful tenure as Student Body President!
