Hendy Woods State Park to be closed May 11-15,2026

PHILO, Calif.—Sonoma Mendocino Coast District announces the temporary closure of
campgrounds and day use at Hendy Woods State Park to allow for paving of the park
road.
On May 11th, 2026 at 6:00 AM, Hendy Woods State Parks will be closed to all visitation while
the road is being repaved. The paving project is expected to be completed on May 15th, 2026
at 5:00 PM. This temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety of visitors and staff while
improvements are being made to park roadways. During this time, day use areas will not be
accessible.
California State Parks appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we complete
these important improvements to enhance visitor access and safety

The Parks Department has asked Hendy Woods Community to notify folks that starting tomorrow, Wednesday Feb 11 through Saturday Feb 14 they are planning to burn the many, many burn piles that were created as part of a fire safe project last year. We have asked them to try not to burn on Saturday to avoid possible smoke during the AV Wines International White Wine and Sparkling Festival, which is Feb 14-15. Update: We just heard the contractor has agreed not to burn on Saturday! Thank you! In any event, if you see smoke at Hendy Woods, don’t worry. It will be great to have those piles burned!

The California State Parks Foundation is paying for Day Use entry to most CA parks this Monday, January 19, which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This includes Hendy Woods. Weather looks like it should be good! The Foundation was very helpful working with us when the state tried to close Hendy Woods back in 2011. So thanks for everything goes out to them!
