Celebrate joyful, adaptive play where every child belongs! This Is How We Play is a valuable resource for families and early childhood teachers, showing how children of all abilities can play together. With a kid-friendly guide, discussion questions, and inclusive language, it helps adults foster meaningful conversations about disability, empathy, and inclusion.

Why is the environment important? π± The spaces where children learn and play shape how engaged they are and how they connect with others. A thoughtfully arranged classroom or play area encourages exploration, builds independence, and strengthens adult-child interactions.
Low shelves and labeled bins help children choose materials on their own, giving adults the chance to guide and support without managing logistics. Cozy reading corners invite quiet time and meaningful conversation, while open areas for blocks or art encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving. These setups create natural opportunities for adults to interact intentionally, ask questions, and respond to childrenβs interests. Reducing clutter and distractions also helps adults focus on each child, fostering stronger connections and supporting social-emotional growth.
By creating safe, inviting, and well-planned environments, families and early childhood teachers help children thrive in every part of their development.

Since the start of the Child & Family Resource Services program in 1987, we have implemented projects that bring together community agencies to share resources, reduce duplication of services, and develop relationships that result in collaborations and partnering with families as a team.
Since its establishment in 1987, the CFRS program has grown dramatically and now includes the following individual components:
1. Family Child Care for Sussex County (1987)
2. Sponsor for Child and Adult Care Food Program for Sussex County (1988)
3. Welfare Reform Lead Child Care Agency for Sussex County (1989)
4. New Jersey Cares for Kids Voucher Program for Sussex County (1991)
5. Child Care Resource & Referral Agency for Sussex County (1992)
6. Family Child Care Sponsoring Organization for Sussex County (1993)
7. Unified Child Care Agency for Hunterdon, Sussex, and Warren counties (1997)
8. Achieved National Association of CCR&R Agencies Quality Assurance (2004)
9. Implemented 24 hour On-line Referral Process (2005)
NORWESCAP Child & Family Resource Services (CFRS) has served as the local resource and referral agency for Sussex County since 1992; Hunterdon and Warren Counties since 1997. CFRS has met the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) quality standards since 2005.
