Good evening everyone,

We're excited to introduce a new event to Philipsburg Heritage Days.

For the past many years, the ladies of St. Paul's Episcopal Church had organized and run the Flower Show, for which we are grateful. This year they decided to step down from that role, and rightfully so.

Instead of letting that long tradition disappear, we're starting something new - you are invited to the Heritage Days Art Show. We're looking for community members of all ages to showcase their paintings, photographs, pottery and craft for the visitors to enjoy. Please share with anyone who may be interested.

Here are some important details:

When -

Thursday July 9 1:30 - 5:00 PM
Friday July 10 11:00 - 3:30

Where -

Holt Memorial Library on Front Street

Age Groups -

Youth 5-12 and 13-17
Adult 18+

Categories -

Paintings
Photographs
Pottery
Craft

All work should be original and your own work.

We will award 1st and 2nd prize in each age group and category. Judging will be done by Heritage Days Committee members, and they will contact winners at the end of the Art Show on Friday.

Bring your work to display (and please label your piece(s). You're welcome to sell if you wish. Please provide a folding table or other display furniture - the library has limited supplies. Due to other events happening at the library, artwork will need to be moved to a secure location (by HD committee members or you) at the library on Thursday at 5 PM, and set up (by HD committee members or you) for display again on Friday morning. It is encouraged that you stay with your display. If you are unable to stay, please let the committee members know when you check in. Please plan to remove your item(s) no later than 4 PM on Friday (the library closes at 4:30 PM).

We're really looking forward to seeing your work. If you have any questions, please email [email protected], or call/text 814-577-2714. We will post a few more details in the next couple of days.

It's so exciting, the community quilt is going to happen, thanks to so many who made the blocks, and ultimately the Moshannon Valley Quilters Association who are putting it together now. It will be on display somewhere in downtown during Heritage Days (details soon).

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported this idea.

Good morning everyone,

We're looking for a few more quilt blocks. If you started to make one but didn't finish because of the deadline, there's still time. We will collect through next week. Please see below and call/text 814-577-2714 if you have any questions. Thank you!

Calling all quilters, seamstresses, and anyone with an interest in sewing....

We're partnering with the Moshannon Valley Quilters to produce a community quilt to commemorate the 250 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. What we're looking for is a 10 inch or 12 inch square piece of fabric with patriotic design in red, white and blue. We will collect these pieces and the ladies from the Moshannon Valley Quilters Association will put it together as a community quilt to display during Heritage Days. We need 30 such pieces at least, the more the better.

If you are not familiar with the Moshannon Valley Quilters - they make amazing quilts for veterans. Check out their page.

To recap -

- 12" or 10" square piece with 1/4" seam on all sides. Just the stitched design on fabric, no backing needed.
- Red, white and blue theme
- Be creative
- Kids are welcome to submit too
- Need 30 pieces minimum, so spread the word.
- Please, NO political statement of any kind.

Deadline to submit - May 1 so that there's enough time to put it together.

See example picture.

We will make arrangements to get pieces from you.

We're hoping this will be a fun thing to do for everyone and that it will be successful.

Questions? Please send us a message here on FB or email [email protected].

Thank you and Happy Stitching!
