Bartol Foundation

Bartol Foundation At the Bartol Foundation, we believe that everyone deserves access to the arts.

Everyday, in every corner of Philadelphia, young people are learning to play Bach or Miles Davis, artists are creating work that will challenge us or make us laugh, communities are transforming empty lots into visual stories. Through our grant programs in the arts, we support organizations that provide creative opportunities to connect and engage, that give voice to a community’s history and futur

e, that sustain and share a rigorous artistic process. Through our extensive free professional development programs for teaching artists, we invest in the vital contribution artists make to our community by strengthening their teaching practice and building a network in the field. In addition to our grantmaking and workshops, we lend our expertise and resources to build the strength of cultural organizations while advocating for the inclusion of arts and culture in broader community strategies.

Faces of Bartol: Gabriela Sanchez

Gabriela (Gabi) is creating space for something we don’t always make room for as adults: play, imagination, and learning. Through the Land & Body courses at Power Street Theatre, she blends storytelling and performance to reconnect adults with creativity and community in meaningful ways.

She shares what it means to be supported by Bartol. As the first funder of this work, Bartol has helped sustain and grow a program that has empowered participants to step into their voices.

🎥 Watch the video to learn more about what Gabi's doing in her community.

Gabi, one of the many faces of Bartol 💛.

📷 May is National Photography Month 📸

This month, we’re celebrating photographers in the Bartol community who capture stories, document lived experiences, and help us see the world in new ways.

Meet Yaqeen Yamani, a Yemeni Palestinian photographer and artist working across photography, video, and printmaking. A grantee of the Arab Documentary Photography Program (AFAC, Magnum Foundation, and Prince Claus Fund), Yaqeen is currently developing In Flow With Water, a long-term project exploring the cultural and environmental relationships surrounding a natural spring in her hometown of Jericho, Palestine.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in the United States, Germany, Bahrain, Egypt, Palestine, and France. Photography is more than an image. It’s storytelling, reflection, and connection. Through their work, artists like Yaqeen invite us to slow down, pay attention, and engage more deeply with the world around us.
