WE WANT TO HELP YOU PROTECT YOUR CAR!

Many PUSH BUTTON START vehicles are being stolen by having the key signal relayed. If your key fob is within a short distance of your vehicle, even if inside your home, a readily available device can be used to relay the signal to your vehicle. The thief can then open your door and drive your vehicle away. Storing your key fob in a faraday pouch can prevent the signal from being captured.

The 7th Police District Advisory Council is giving away faraday pouches to 7th Police District residents to help fight the auto theft problem. Simply stop by the 7th Police District, Bustleton Avenue and Bowler Street, 24 hours a day to pick up your pouch for free.

Remember, these are only for vehicles with a push button start. Registration required. Limit one per vehicle. Offer only for residents of the 7th Police District.

Your Nightly Reminder:

Be sure your vehicle is locked before heading off to bed. A simple click of the lock button on the remote will do the trick.

Make sure your home and garage doors are locked. Garage doors can often provide an easy entrance to a house.

JUNE 6 - SCAM OF THE DAY: CHARITY FRAUD

Here’s how they work:

Someone contacts you asking for a donation to their charity. It sounds like a group you’ve heard of, it seems real, and you want to help.

But how can you tell what’s a scam? Charity scammers want to get your money quickly. They often pressure you to donate right away. They ask for cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. Scammers often refuse to send you information about the charity. They won’t answer questions or explain how the money will be used. They might even lie and say you already made a pledge to donate.

Here’s what to do:

1. Take your time. Don’t trust your caller ID. Scammers use technology to make any name or number appear on caller ID. Tell callers to send you information by mail. Do some research. Is the charity real? If callers ask you for cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or a wire transfer, it’s a scam.

2. Pass this information on to a friend. Probably everyone you know gets charity solicitations. This information could help someone else spot a possible scam.

JUNE 5 - SCAM OF THE DAY: HOME REPAIR SCAMS

Here’s how they work:

Someone knocks on your door or calls you. They say they can fix your leaky roof, put in new windows, or install the latest energy-efficient solar panels. They might find you after a flood, windstorm, or other natural disaster. They pressure you to act quickly and might ask you to pay in cash or offer to get you financing.

But here’s what happens next: they run off with your money and never make the repairs. Or they do shoddy repairs that make things worse. Maybe they got you to sign a bad financing agreement that puts your house at risk.

Here’s what to do:

1 Stop. Check it out. Before making home repairs, ask for recommendations from people you trust and check that the companies have licenses and insurance. Get three written estimates. Don’t start work until you have reviewed and signed a written contract. And don’t pay by cash or wire transfer.

2 Pass on this information on to a friend. You may see through these scams. But chances are, you know someone who could use a friendly reminder.

POLICE OFFICER OF THE MONTH
May, 2026
Md Al Mamun #1106

On Wednesday, May 20 at approximately 7:15 P.M., 7th District officers responded to a radio call regarding a Person with at Weapon at the Gifford playground, 575 Tomlinson Road. Police met with a complainant who reported that after a physical altercation with two juveniles, he was chased down and confronted by an individual driving a black SUV. The operator of that vehicle pointed a handgun at the complainant and stated “This is my block!” and then left the scene.

A description of the vehicle, a black Kia Sorento, along with the vehicle tag # were broadcast over police radio. Officer Al Mamun immediately began surveying the surrounding area for the fleeing vehicle. Officer Al Mamun observed the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on Greiner Road. Utilizing proper tactical felony vehicle stop procedures, Officer Al Mamun activated his emergency lights and successfully stopped the vehicle on Greiner Road. He ordered the operator to turn off the engine and hand over the keys. The driver denied having weapons in the vehicle. When his backup arrived, Officer Al Mamun ordered the driver to exit the vehicle. The victim arrived and positively identified the operator as the offender, and he was taken into custody.

Officer Al Mamun then conducted a protective frisk of the driver's immediate area, and recovered a gray Ta**us G2C 9MM handgun equipped with a laser light attachment, concealed directly underneath the driver's seat. The offender was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.

This arrest by Officer Al Mamun reflects the highest standards of the Philadelphia Police Department. Officer Al Mamun's proactive patrol tactics, rapid response, and decisive action directly removed an armed, violent offender from the community and seized an illegal firearm before it could be used against anyone else. It is for these reasons we are proud to recognize Officer Al Mamun as our Police Officer of the Month for May, 2026.
