In 1774, it hosted the First Continental Congress, where delegates from the colonies gathered to coordinate a response to British rule.

It remains an important part of the story of the nation’s founding.

As the First Bank of the United States returns to public life, its presence continues to shape the historic streetscape of Philadelphia.

In celebration of , we are pleased to share a short clip about the First Bank as its rehabilitation nears completion. In this video, Karie Diethorn, Museum Curator at Independence NHP, Edgar Allan Poe NHS & Thaddeus Kosciuszko NM, explores the physical significance of the building, its monumental design, and the lasting impact it has had on the city around it for more than two centuries.

This is just the beginning as we count down to the reopening of the First Bank on July 1st 🏛️

Spring is in full bloom at Independence National Historical Park 🌸

Spaces like the Benjamin Rush Garden offer a place to pause and reflect just steps from Independence Hall.

Fun Fact: The types of flowers and plants in the Benjamin Rush Garden have been carefully choosen and represent species shipped between Britain and the United states in the 1700s. Scientists like Benjamin Franklin and William Bartram exchanged seeds with their counterparts in England in the pursuit of knowledge.

Twilight Tours return on May 22 🌙

These free, volunteer-led walking tours offer a unique way to experience Independence NHP, Edgar Allan Poe NHS & Thaddeus Kosciuszko NM in the evening hours.

Tours are offered daily at 5:15pm with additional 6:00pm tours on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

We are one month away from our annual Gala 🌟

This year, we are beyond excited to celebrate the re-opening of the First Bank of the United States.

Thank you to Paul & Melissa Blodgett and TD for their generous sponsorship of this event!

Over our 50+ year history, we have purchased or acquired more than 1,000 artifacts for the park’s permanent collections, fundraised for major public spaces within the park, and provided educational tours and programs to visitors and locals alike. Thank you for helping us continue our work!
