Let me express my deepest appreciation to our sister Rev. Malika Rahman for opening up doors of opportunity, pouring into our spirits when needed, and demonstrating what it looks like to walk in purpose, power, and excellence.

I had the honor to share a moment of recognition with my childhood friends who dedicated their lives to serving the community and families in our neighborhood and across the city over the last few years. This work gets heavy and it feels thankless at times but it’s not in vain.

We also want to send our thoughts and prayers out to the Philadelphia Police for the officer who was unalived and the other who was wounded. A few high-ranking police officers shared that they considered cancelling this event due to the tragedy but they understood how important it is to continue building bridges of trust between police and community.

Last but not least, I want to close by encouraging my good brother Taj Murdock to keep inspiring. We have watched him consistently dedicate himself to serving in excellence. What a privilege it is to stand beside you.

Looking forward to joining an incredible group of community leaders for the Octavius Catto Legacy Conference on Saturday, October 10th.

I’ll be joining Garry Mills, Ryan Harris, and Taj Murdock for The Brotherhood Blueprint: Building Bridges to Joy, Accountability, and Purpose, moderated by Malika Rahman.

Conversations like these matter. Brotherhood is more than standing beside one another. It’s about accountability, showing up for our communities, sharing what we’ve learned, and building something stronger for those coming behind us.

Grateful for the opportunity to bring the perspective of Endangered Kind into this conversation and learn alongside leaders doing meaningful work across Philadelphia.

FEAR NO EVIL! This is our hood until our time is up. We will always bring light back to the community during our darkest hours by any means necessary.

The last few weeks we’ve lost a beautiful woman that was a community pillar on our block that we will never forget. Our neighborhood spiked in gun violence which we haven’t seen in years but this is a reminder that we are far from finished.

We have taken every hit that an organization can take this year in spite of our visibility increasing. This year taught how important it is to be self-sustaining as an organization which will take with us moving into 2027.

And to our amazing donor and all those that showed up to support us, we truly appreciate the love.

P.S. Special shout out to my brother Michael Byrd for being the only one giving me a hand in serving the people today because I needed the help.

In America, violence is big business! Community violence is lucrative for institutions including first responders that risk their lives trying to save lives, academia, hospitals, prisons, gun manufacturers, criminal justice, media propaganda, hip-hop, and entertainment to name a few.

For our organization, the goal is to put ourselves out of business by ending community violence. This allows us to reallocate resources to focus on broader issues but instead institutional powers strategically choose treating symptoms over long-term investment into the root cause.

It’s no wonder why people have visions of making it out the slums that was designed to cripple the majority and exploit the talent that emerge out of the concrete.
