New Jersey is on a massive mission to replace lead water lines by 2031, and crews are already hard at work here in Margate and across the Downbeach area.
It is a fantastic step for our public health, but replacing the municipal lines is only half the battle.

The heavy construction going on outside can actually shake up old lead scale inside your home's older interior pipes, causing a temporary spike in heavy metals right at your kitchen sink.

Sustainable Downbeach 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗶, and Sustainable Sherri had a great evening at the Ventnor Green Fair at the Ventnor school complex, organized by Ventnor science teacher 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗹𝗮. Always wonderful to teach the kids and their parents about our ecosystem and environment.

Other groups included Surfrider Foundation, ACUA, NJ Fish and Wildlife, Jacques Cousteau Research Center.

🕰️ Lost for over 100 years… now revealed.

I just uncovered rare aerial photos of Margate City, NJ from 1920 — and they tell an incredible story.

These forgotten images show how dredging and land reclamation reshaped the Downbeach NJ coastline, transforming barrier islands, waterfronts, and the community we know today. It’s a powerful visual reminder of how engineering decisions from a century ago still influence property, flooding, and coastal resilience right now.
