Something people don’t always realize is that rescues don’t fund themselves. Adoption fees help, but they don’t remotely cover the cost of caring for the cats in our care.

Vet bills, medications, procedures, food, supplies, and unexpected medical needs add up quickly. With every cat who comes into our care, comes another set of needs and expenses. We rely on our community to help us keep saying yes to cats who need us. ❤️

So today, we’re asking for just $5 for our medical kitties. Five dollars may seem small, but when a whole community chips in, it can make a HUGE difference.

❤️ Sugar Kitty Ty Update ❤️

About a month ago, we put out a plea to try to locate Ty’s former family and save him from euthanasia.

Together, you helped his story reach more than 50,000 people. Despite that incredible support, we weren’t able to reconnect with his former owner. At this point, we’ve accepted that Ty’s next chapter is ahead of him.

Since bringing Ty into our care, we’ve been trying to piece together his medical history. Unfortunately, there are still gaps in his records uthat uthat between his diabetes diagnosis and his hospitalization for diabetic ketoacidosis. We’ve called all the veterinary clinics we knew he visited, but so far we haven’t been able to fill in those missing pieces.

The good news? Ty couldn’t have landed in a better foster home. His foster has gone above and beyond to make sure he’s getting the care he deserves, and we’re committed to giving him the healthiest, happiest future possible.

We’ve also learned a few things about Tyson (yes, his full name is Tyson! ❤️). He tames his daily blood glucose tests like a champ. We’re already seeing great results with his current insulin dose, which suggests the 3 units he was receiving before coming into our care may have been more than he needed putting him at high risk for hypoglycemia. We’ll continue monitoring his blood sugar closely and adjusting his treatment as needed. Every day, he reminds us why so many people fell in love with him.

💙 Hoagie needs a little help breathing easy 💙

How can you say no to that adorable little chin tuft?!

Hoagie spent the first 2–3 years of his life on the streets before coming into foster care. Now, every morning, this sweet boy rests his head on his human’s shoulder and purrs. He’s finally discovered how wonderful it is to be safe, loved, and spoiled. ❤️

Recently, Hoagie started breathing harder than usual and when he started panting. We rushed him to the vet, where X-rays showed abnormal fluid buildup affecting his breathing. We don’t have a definitive diagnosis yet. His symptoms could be related to a heart condition or asthma, and we’re working to figure out what’s going on!

For now, he’s on medication to help make breathing easier while we get more answers.

Hoagie has come so far, and we want to give him every chance to keep enjoying his favorite things: cuddles, shoulder snuggles, purring, and being ridiculously cute. 🥹🐾

George’s journey got a little more complicated. 💔

Last week, we took George to Washington Ave Animal Hospital for x-rays ahead of his scheduled hernia surgery. We were hoping for answers that would help him move forward with treatment, but instead we discovered yet another medical concern.

In addition to his large inguinal hernia, George has a completely dislocated hip.
Thankfully, his hernia isn’t quite as urgent or dangerous as we initially feared. Because George’s hernia is so large, his veterinary team has decided the best course of action is to address one issue at a time.

George is now scheduled to return to Forgotten Cats next week for his hernia repair. Once he’s fully recovered and his surgical site has healed, he’ll be referred to Providence Animal Center for an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) to repair his hip.

Through it all, George continues to be the sweetest little kitten. He purrs through everything and has no idea how many people are rooting for him.

While we’re relieved to have a plan, George still has a long road ahead, and his medical expenses continue to grow. We’re committed to giving him every chance at a pain-free, happy life.

As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, our commitment to accessibility is just beginning.

Over the coming months, we'll be expanding our Trap Library, investing in lighter, more accessible humane traps and equipment, and continuing to advocate for both our Perfectly Imperfect cats and the people who make rescue possible.

This initiative took a back seat as we responded to one urgent medical case after another, but it remains one of our highest priorities. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the foundation of everything we do. By preventing suffering before it starts, TNR allows us to help far more cats than rescue alone ever could.

Throughout Disability Pride Month, we've celebrated the resilience of people and animals alike while recognizing that disability is a natural part of life - not something that makes anyone less deserving of love, opportunity, or belonging.

At Whiskered Away, we have a special place in our hearts for our "Perfectly Imperfect" cats. Some have disabilities or medical needs. Others are seniors, shy, or simply need a little extra patience. Every one of them deserves the chance to be someone's favorite.

We're also working to make rescue itself more accessible. Many of the community members we help through TNR - and many of the rescuers who volunteer beside us - are older adults or people living with disabilities. By building our Trap Library and providing lighter, easier-to-use equipment, we're removing barriers so more people can safely help the cats in their own neighborhoods.

Accessibility doesn't just change lives - it saves them.

George needs your help!

George has had a rough start to life. He was abandoned outdoors and found hiding in a bush before finally being brought to safety. This morning, he’s at Washington Animal Hospital for x-rays before returning to Forgotten Cats for surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. His hernia is larger than his own head, and we’re concerned it may even contain his bladder. George has also shown some hind-end mobility issues, so today’s x-rays are especially important to help his veterinary team determine the safest treatment plan.

We’re hopeful he’ll be feeling much better soon, but the unexpected veterinary bills continue to pile up.
Despite everything he’s been through, George is the sweetest little guy. He may be a little shy at first, but the moment you pick him up, his purr motor starts running and doesn’t stop. With his gorgeous gray coat, subtle marbling, and gentle personality, he’s impossible not to fall in love with.

If you’re local to the Philadelphia area, we’re looking for a foster home where George can recover after surgery. He’ll be on crate rest, and we’ll provide the crate and all the supplies you’ll need. George is already neutered, up to date on his age-appropriate vaccines, and combo tested negative for both FIV and FeLV. All he needs is a safe place to heal.

Tomato Pie Tom’s next chapter is waiting… but he needs a foster or adopter!

When Tomato Pie Tom first came into our care, he was in rough shape. This sweet ginger boy was found injured, underweight, and suffering from entropion, a painful condition where his eyelid his eyelashes rub against his eye. After everything he had been through, Tom finally got the care he needed, including surgery to help give him a comfortable, pain-free future.

Now we’re so excited to share that Tom is nearly fully recovered and ready to look forward to the next step in his journey.

Tom is the perfect example of why we continue saying yes to cats in need. With the support of our community, a cat who was once struggling outdoors is now getting a second chance at the happy life he deserves.

But Tom’s story isn’t finished yet. He urgently needs a foster home or adopter who can help him transition into his next chapter. After everything he’s been through, we want to see him in a safe, loving home where he can finally relax and be spoiled.

🐾💔PLEASE SHARE - HELP GET EMBER HOME💔🐾
We were hoping our next post about Ember would be celebrating his adoption. Sadly, that’s not the update we have today.

While Ember was being transferred to his adoptive home, he managed to escape from his carrier. He was last seen near 50th & Pine.

Ember has been in our care since the winter after he was rescued in rough condition. He has come such a long way, and both his foster and his adopter are absolutely devastated that he’s missing.

Traps were set immediately, but it appears Ember has hunkered down and is hiding nearby. Since he hasn’t lived outdoors since the winter, and this is quite a distance from where he was originally rescued, we believe he’s likely staying close to where he escaped.

Please keep an eye out for him. Check garages, sheds, under porches and outdoor steps, bushes, behind air conditioning units, under decks, and any other small, quiet hiding places.

🐾 Distinctive pink-and-black nose
🐾 Neutered and microchipped

Nearly two months ago, Zax and his brother Atlas were rescued from a devastating hoarding situation. Today, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Zax, who is finally ready to find the forever home he’s been waiting for. All Zax wants is a safe place to call home, someone to spoil him with treats and chin scratches, and the chance to leave his past behind for good. He’s already neutered, vaccinated, combo tested double negative, and has even had a recent dental cleaning, so he’s ready to start his next chapter with his forever family.

This handsome marbled tabby is estimated to be around five years old, and he’s as sweet as they come. Zax absolutely loves scratches behind his ears and on his lower back, and if you happen to have snacks, you’ve already won him over!

As you might have guessed, Zax is very comfortable around other cats after growing up in a multi-cat household which also had a calm cat savvy dog.

If you’re worried you don’t have enough space to foster or adopt, don’t be! Zax actually prefers starting out in a smaller space while he settles in. A spare room, tiny office, or even a bathroom gives him the chance to build confidence before exploring the rest of the home. We’ve found he adjusts much more quickly when he’s allowed to decompress in a cozy space first.

After everything he’s been through, all Zax wants is a safe place to call home, someone to spoil him with treats and chin scratches, and the chance to leave his past behind for good.
