DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc.

DonCARES of Philadelphia, Inc. We are a coalition of college students of color who advocate for high school students in North Philadelphia. We currently serve the North Philadelphia area.

DonCARES of Philadelphia is a community organization of college students of color from Philadelphia who strive to better themselves through community service, education workshops, and who have a desire to give back to their community. Members advocate for youth by pledging to become a mentor and an advocate to inner-city youth and by promoting education through educational workshops in inner-city

schools. We were founded in September, 2015 and are currently a public organization. As the goal of DonCARES, mentors will act as positive role-models who will promote education as an important aspect of self-advancement to inner-city youth while countering the false perceptions made against us by ardently working to improve ourselves through service, fellowship, self-appreciation and understanding for one another.

I was in SPED in high school.

I had a 504 plan, an IEP, a TSS worker, and went to alternative school.

I also went to 8 schools in 9 years.

Today, I’m one month from being assigned my dissertation chair.

Never give up.

Every day is another chance to make a difference.

I would like to express my appreciation to Carly, Kishon, Kaya, and Tristian for visiting Georgetown University to inspire my students.

The objective of today's lesson was to educate students on how college can shape career trajectories. We built upon our previous sessions focusing on network building and even crafted one-sentence "why's" on our reasons for applying. πŸ™πŸΎπŸ”₯πŸ”₯
